Add a "DPS" stat to the characters (damage per second) that is the result of a calculation using the character base dmg, speed, critical hit and critical dmg. It's a merely informative stat.

Because, in the PW, everyone just cares about what is a character base damage when is time to invite to groups. And that's wrong because an higher base damage doesn't necessarily mean a higher damage output, because there is also speed, CH and CD. However there's no easy way to translate that idea into a simple value, and that where the "DPS" stat might help.

The current situation exclude those who of take into account Critical Hit, Critical Damage and Speed when building their characters in order to get a higher effective dmg output (than the one they would have if they only focused on base dmg). So the guys who have a better understanding about how the dmg output works are in disavantage when its time to get groups to Infernal runs, when compared to those who effectively have lower damage while having higher base dmg.

Should it also take into accout mana/steam and eventual resourse consumption gems and runes that help recharge abilities faster?

A DPS would be nice but as sagon234 pointed out it doesn't tell the entire story. If DSO would have followed the great advice of @_Baragain_ and had implemented a better cv system, this would solve the issue.

However, even with a high dps or other resources it doesn't necessarily make the player a good team player. If someone chooses to focus only on dps or speed or whatever instead of how well they work together, that is a bit short sighted in my opinion.

Nice ideea, dps is better all around stats than pure damage per hit.

Oh, what I meant was DPI ("Damage Performance Index"), like in here: http://dsopage.bplaced.net/

Well, DPI or DPS, whatever is the best to express the damage output into a single value that takes into account all offensive stats.

Whether you call it DPS, DPI, or DPH, it is a metric that should be shown somewhere so that people can gage their offensive capability. Like Rhysingstar mentioned, I argued (two years ago tomorrow) that some variation of this should have been included in the CV system to give an accurate metric of a character's offensive build. Throw in an EH (Effective HP) number to gage the defensive strength of a character and you would have a CV system that would actually be worth something.
