So I was crafting this legendary ring, when I identify it, these stats poped up:

    Legendary Large Journeyman Ring
    Item level: 26
    76 + 77 = 153 Critical hit value
    73 Armor value
    21 All ressistance value
    2x empty gem slot

I plan on upgrading this ring to 40+ but I'm not sure if it is worth it?
If not, what items should I upgrade?

You will need more slots for gems, also it rly depends from your other items, and you know that you will have to farm a lot or pay to get that to lvl40?

Identifying legendary level 40 will cost me alot of CoT, and this little ring will get upgraded every now and then, again, alot of time in both situations, needs playing.

But my question is, should I hold this ring and keep upgrading it, or simply to be placeholder for leveling up and at 40+ to change it?

I'm curious to know more about this item upgrading mechanic and what items are worth it.

I assure you, that you can faster get more CoT then farming that much Glyphs.
So I'd say that you should just change rings from time to time, no need to go legendary fast now especially if you lvl-up fast, so my suggestion don't bother about upgrading it that much you will probably find some more suited stats till 40.

On a side note, you can get offensive bonuses on the items from the left side of your inventory (jewelry, belt, weapon decoration). Items from the right side can only have defensive bonuses except unique ones and the offhand, so it's good to find offensive bonuses on the left-side items as you cannot get them elsewhere. Defensive left-side items are rarely used in endgame, mostly by group tanks or dark set users hungry for hitpoints.

You can get 3-10% Critical Damage at gloves, with one enchantment.

If this holds true, or even if it's close/similliar, than it's great a man to know that.

Atm I'm 34 and the ring is 26, I think i will upgrade it a little bit more, like 2-3 levels more and keep it for early end-game, 40+.
Kinda sad for only 2 gem slots, but I think that lower level of the item couldn't go higher. Anyways.

Thanks to all for the answers

True, I forgot about the gloves.

Upgrading items is not a bad thing to do, it can be worth it... Not with this one. Find one with dmg and crit.. :)

Also never forget a good unique item, the stats are a lot of times worth upgrading to it's full potential and having an awesome stat adjustment like the "ring of death" hard to find one that compares and is for sure worth an upgrade even at random stats.
