Make all servers cross-server, meaning Agathon will play with some Tegan players, and so forth. It will take a load off the waiting times, possibly making it instant.

A few games do this, FF14 is an example, the PVP, dungeons are all cross-server, meaning someone from chocobo server, queue up for a PvP match and play with\against a player from Aeon server and throw them all into the same instance.

And by cross-server I didn't mean to say merge the entire servers together.

    AN example:
Player A from Agathon, is queuing for 5v5,
Player B from Tegan, is queuing for 5v5,
The system checks to see if enough players for Player A is playing 5v5 in Agathon,
If not Player B will queue up into the same slot as Player B and will take the spot of the required person which the system checks for.

How many times have you seen the green bar lit for 10-20 minutes and a game has never initiated?

You all thought I was going to rant about PvP being bad huh :p?

It has been requested before but the way the servers are set up they wont be able to handle what you are asking. Maybe someone will have a better answer.

Oh, that's interesting. Is it a server thing, or a java limitation? I know java has a few limitation in regard to video games.

They could just set up a server strictly for PVP instances though. Not sure how complicated this would be.

The problem is more complicated that that. Where would the server be located? If it was in America, people in Europe would have 2-3 times higher ping times and vice-versa. The difference between 75ms and 150ms may not seem like much, but for PvP, it could be significant. This could be overcome by making an American cross PvP server and a European one, because the servers are all geographically in the same areas. (California in the US and Hamburg in Europe see below).

There are other issues like storage of character data. The data is stored on the server that you play on and there would need to be some sort of import and purge before and after each fight because storing all the server's character data on one server and keeping it up to date would be difficult. (Not impossible)

While it could be done, it would likely have people complaining... You know the phrase (modified for BigPoint) "You can tick off all of the people some of the time or some of the people all of the time." My bet is that BP would do it badly to begin with and then everyone would complain and moan. There are much more important thing that need to be fixed before they even attempt to try something of this magnitude.

Geographic location of all the servers... just in case you were interested.

Nice informative post, it can be done, just not reliable with this company, got it.

BP must have done a lot of screwing around for players to dislike them as a company lol.
