Since you are a pure PVE player, as Infamous has said, you don't need that much speed but instead need more damage and crit. For the gears, you will eventually get 5 unique gems for the headgear. The final set up for defensive gems should be like this

    5 unique gems
    20 diamonds
    30 amethysts

The only exception to this is if they ever re-release the defender's belt. That is the one time that it is OK to us Cyanites because each one is worth 20% more.

I didn't think about that when I first signed up to play, it was so much fun to do the quests and open up new maps. Plus it is so easy to reach level 35 that I never considered taking any time to do anything else.

I didn't mind dying over and over again to do a quest as I can respawn on the same map. I didn't really notice a difference until I hit level 40 and tried the pw. That was where I realized that I was entirely too weak and began to build up my stats.

So for the last couple of weeks it's been all about farming for gear and gems. I've learned my lesson. ;)

What unique gems and how will I get them?

New unique gems always come out. Some old ones come back as well. Unique gems always comes from event.

Well I upgraded a few pieces of gear and went wild on the gem sale today..

Still have to upgrade more gear, but it's getting better slowly but surely. Most of the gear that I have only has 2 gem slots, and it seems like a better idea to find better gear than to open up spots.

As of now, I have in my gear (polished) 3 Sapphires, 3 Rubies, 18 Amethysts, 8 Diamonds, 1 shadow stone (helmet).

Once I get better gear I have extra gems to add.

It has been interesting to see just how your character has developed since you started this thread. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, I've gotten such good advice on how to build a great character and have a good direction on what to farm for.

I have farmed hundreds of times in the Atlantis region hoping to get some of the unique gear that is supposed to drop there. Sooner or later I'll get some better gear and eventually unique gear.

Good work. To be comfortable at L45, you should be full pol defend gem and full radiant attack gems. For me, I tend to focus more on Amethyst over Diamond esp if you are PVE.....

and the test on whether you are strong is enough is whether you can solo Groto PW IMHO

    The ultimate plan is to end up with;

    5 Ruby
    5 Sapphire
    10 Diamond
    35 Amethyst
    5 unique helmet gems

I have all polished now, but will be upgrading them as I find and buy more. Given enough time I should be able to get them to at least flawless but still dreaming of having everything sacred. :D

The gear is the hardest part as most are only found in events so it's a waiting game.

Creating legendary gear is easy but getting the stats and gem slots seems to be the hardest part. It would be nice to be able to see this before wasting the cots.

Other than that, it's been fun trying to build up my sw.

Now that you have shared your opinion on paying players, do you have any suggestions on the best gear that would answer my question on how to build the best sw?

Focus on finding left-side items with 4 gem slots and offensive bonuses, probably add 5 armor gems in your plan as you will be finding those as well. If you are going to up your critical damage, make sure that your crit rate is sufficient, and try to find a decent ball and scroll.

You should realy try wearing amon's wings they are nice boost to dmg, those shoulders are far worse than amon's that's for sure. As for helmet idk how much drakens you have, but a dark helm is a way to go(gnob will be here soon), you will get a nice armor and biger crit(it will probably go from your current to over 900). Using only one roshan part is a bit useless(i can see you didn't upgraded it, that's good, don't melt them), if you have some extra drakens keep them and buy dark gloves(nice boost to speed+dmg bonus with dark helm). You can get this items very fast, q2 is easy to finish, and i'm sure you have at least 1k drakens after this event?. Btw that amulet=melt, don't use that crap open 1 legendary and it will be better for sure. If you don't have hp on that torso, try farming sigri for his unique, it's a nice thing for a starting hp-hungry mages. :)

Looking around youtube, I've found some good videos that show stats, but haven't found any that specifically talk about gear used to get those stats.

One thing that stands out is most are showing 0 block rates.

    One in particular shows
    Base 934-1022
    HP 8189
    Armor 1822
    Crit Hit 1978
    Crit Dmg 241
    Resist 1120

It was nice to see where he had his gems and what they were.

Diamonds in belt and rings, Cyanites in book, Amethysts in others, uniques in helmet, Sapphires in crystal and Rubies in wand.

I've spent quite a bit of time on the wiki page to determine which gear gives the best stats.

There are differing opinions on which sets are best... Dark Armor, Roshan, Ammon, etc.

Maybe there is no one size fits all.

For players who are doing pvp in a group armor seems to be an afterthought. It's all about damage which makes sense.

Once I put together a gear wishlist, I'll update the thread to get opinions on the pieces that will do the best job for how I play.

I really appreciate all the help in quest to build the best sw for me.....

Here is what I have come up with for a potential gear (wish) list and would love advice from the more experienced players:

At the moment I have just over 1000 drakens so obtaining the dark set pieces will take time. The other gear just requires getting lucky in the drops...

For the most part it seems a combo of Ammon and Dark is the best but I am certainly open to suggestions as always.

Amulet - Dragon Shackle (Dragonache if still possible) or Amulet of Death (Mortis)
    Belt - Roshan
    Crystal - Sargon
Rings - Ammon or Dark set
    Wand - Karrabosa or Sargon
    Orb - Riddle (pw)
    Boots - Ammon
    Gloves - Ammon
    Cloak - Power
    Robe - Dark set
    Pauldron - Ammon
Helmet - Viper (pw) or Dark set.

    WARNING: Long Post.
You wanna use as few offensive Sargon items as possible. The 25 mana reduction is actually a lot and it can be a pain to play with only 75 of it. I would stick with Karabossa staff.
Roshan belt would be a bad choice considering your other choices. Roshan pieces are pretty bad by themselves, so unless you plan to use boots and gloves, don't use the belt. Dragon Shackle and the Dragonache rings are good... but 16k Draken will take time to amass (you might want to consider waiting for a Gnob sale and buy them for 75% of the normal price). IMO it would be good to get Rings of Death, while you gather up draken. Riddle is a good choice for critical damage, use it until you can find a better item. Ammon's Wings are a good choice. Dark Helmet is also good.

So it looks like this: Sargon crystal, Dark Helmet, Ammons Wings, Karabossa Staff, Dark Boots(for the travel speed as well as 2 item bonus), and Riddle. With that, you have good crit rate and good crit damage, as well as some damage. 2 Rings of Death until you can get the Dragonache set, Witch Chaser set for the HP and some damage, Steam Gloves if you can get them. That leaves amulet and belt... get 2 legendaries until you can get the Dragon Shackle amulet. The legendary belt will be easily replaced when you have collected your Roshan's items.

This set will have low defense until you get Dragonache and Roshan sets, so you're gonna need a lot of Amethysts.

    That is my feedback anyways.

    Edit:
So here is how that looked with 14 diamonds, 35 amethysts, Shadow Stone, 5 rubies, 5 sapphires: (for the belt and amulet I used random but low and easily achievable stats that I've seen in my IDed items.. maybe a bit too low, but the both of them gave some 200 hp 200 armor and 66 damage)

I would post the end version with Dragonache and Roshans, but the Drakensang Optimizer doesn't yet have the dragonache set added. The base damage might seem a little lower than you hoped, but don't worry... it is better this way with the crit damage and good crit. Come to think of it... Automated Amulet (8.4k andermant) instead of legendary amulet, and Dark Gloves instead of Steam Gloves would be a better setup for overall DPS since you gain about 10 speed.

When you get Bloodtooth ring, you will get a bit too much crit rate, which is when you can replace either helmet or wand, preferably with speedier wand (Vargulf? even more crit damage!) or Mortis mask(pretty rare).

As far as placing gems goes, put the appropriate gems in items which have a % bonus. So all rubies in the wand if it has +x%weapon damage. The % bonus is applied to weapon damage after you stuffed the weapon with rubies, meaning that +50% weapon damage makes each polished ruby worth +15 rather than +10. DKs do the same with Defender's belt if they use one because you generally don't want to sac more than one item worth of sockets for armor gems.
