I put three extraordinary Duria wands and a level 45 pauldron, and the workbench spit out a legendary pauldron. And it's a really crappy pauldron too. I just lost 77 gold, and I am flat broke.

I mean, how is this possible? Like, why did this happen to me? I crafted each extraordinary duria wand all the way from improved Duria wand...

It is simple math. There was a 75% chance that you would get a wand, and a 25% chance you would get pauldrons... Let this be a lesson and warning in dirty crafting. If you can't be happy with both outcomes, don't craft it. In this new era where it costs gold to craft, I never dirty craft above 4 blues to get a purple.

What baragain said. I would never do dirty crafting these days, too expensive.

But I thought you couldn't put four items of the same level same type item? Correct me if I'm wrong.

who told you that? you absolutely want to put four of the same item (i.e., level 45 extraordinary wands) if you want to guarantee the next level up (level 45 legendary wand).

That is why this crafting system for gold sucks. Previously ... if you get undesirable outcome from crafting items ... you simply trash it ... you didn't have to use COT for ID. Now you must spend gold for crafting ... even if you get item that you didn't expected/wanted.

I put a level 43 purple 2h in every sword I craft so that the out come us always a lvl 43, but that isn't because I can't do 4 lvl 45s. It is so that the base stats are better when upgraded.

    Smart crafting strategy.

I agree with you 99.99999999%. Only problem I have is with level 44 gear. Unless the game hates me 4 Green 44 gave me a blue 43 :( but hey like _baragain_ said it upgrades better but I did not k ow that at the time :)

Another disadvantage for rangers. DK's and SW's can craft level 43 weapons which have +1 level when upgraded ... but rangers can't. Level 43 bows have lower base stats than level 45 bows.

Since the update, I avoid crafting at all costs unless if I have to do crafting for a daily and I go to farm in Swerdfield Pastures to get 4 low level greens to make a blue. Crafting high level items is a money sink and I rather melt all the items and keep farming for a nice extraordinary/legendary/unique drop with good stats on its own.

Or go to Mystra as has been mentioned time and time again in other threads... That repeatable quest is free.

True, I haven't thought about that but at the same time level 30 and under can't enter Mystra to get that quest so that's moot for those who have said crafting quest for daily. Nevertheless... my point is that now I don't craft weapons unless I have to like the aforementioned scenario.
