I have recently noticed that sometimes characters doenst take any damage in PvP when i have shot them from backside. Today i got fireball straight in my back when i was running in CTF and it did not do ANY damage whatsoever. Anyone else noticed this happening?

lag, possibly. the fireball is somewhere else but the lag overlaps the location, making you think the hit occurs when it did not?

When the lag is massive, you get a hint of what's going on. There are 2 instances or maps in play at the same time. What you see may be the same as the server, but not when lag runs the show. Rubber banding and snapping to another position is common.

I think the server makes predictions about movement, and plots short-term projections about where everything and everyone is going. It's usually in milli-seconds, and we don't notice it. But if communications slow down, troubles increase. When those predictions go very wrong, the server makes corrections; those corrections causes things to jump around, and make us feel like (put words of your choosing here).

The longer the transmission time to the server, the more likely things will go wrong. Weather makes a difference, the player load in game makes a difference, the traffic on all the servers along the route make a difference, and the amount of information transmitted makes a difference. Of course, the DSO equipment, and their technicians and managers, make a big difference.

Missing targets is one result, especially if distance is a factor. Not being able to pick up an open flag, over and over, is my main aggravation.

You can try to play at another time, or just tough it out, thinking that everyone is in the same mess. Unfortunately, weaker players have a disadvantage. With less speed, armor, damage, etc, they have less margin take up the loss.

    Good hunting.

This is one of my favorite pvpisms:rolleyes:. Running across an empty area with no enemy dots, then BOOM, health zeroes and countdown starts for rez. I can only assume an exploding mage occupied the space before i did although they don't show on the map or main screen. Sometimes I feel like I'm playing live in a tape delayed game.

I have great bandwidth and I even see that daily. The board is all clear and you happen to be cruising over a SW corpse. Boom. I also see player dots disappear on the minimap and then reappear a few seconds later. You learn over time these 'isms' of PVP. Still, the invisible SW explosion is really horrible when you think you have a clear runway.
