why dose the group size matter? I seem to get 2.4k from gorga at lvl 43 no matter the size
pw needs groups something I can never find, below lvl 45 anyway, and when I do I get group with people using green and blue items who just get slaughtered
im not willing to spend that much on a pet tbh 16k ander :/
pvp is a big no no atm till im geared im lvl 43 facing 45 marshals and get next to no xp or pvp points

so really my only options are farm gorga for 12 hrs straight or farm mini boss's 12 hrs straight, and then have fun looking forward to it all over again for lvl 44-45?

Group size doesn't matter but the player's level does.
At level 43 Gorga is out of question ... just kill the commanders in Thunder Crest. Just run and kill in cycles at the highest point on the map.

Even with level 45 players in your group you will get decent amount of XP ... you can do this 1-2 hours per day.
The scroll of insight will double your XP and make it less time consumable.

The truth of the game is that if you do not want to farm for XP, you will never enjoy the game because you will never farm end game for the items needed to improve your toon. Yes, Gorga kill after Gorga kill is painful. But, you MUST be willing to spend hours alone soloing a PW or mid level area to collect items and ess and looking for better gear. If you can't do that then you will be a 45(yes, an accomplishment) but, with mediocre gear that peeps will soon figure out and you will not get the invites to do destructor and event boss kills etc. Farming is the key to this game, and if you don't like it, X-box is only a Walmart away.

Level 43 was definitely a point where I stalled my leveling progress for about a week (compared to the previous and following levels that lasted a few days at best). I just did things like farming Blackborg for wood and Varholm for silver ess to break the monotony. These maps are easy enough to do solo even for so-so characters. I skipped doing the actual events until I hit 45, when I had a nice stash of this stuff to work off. The other thing was actually PWs. I would tag whichever 45s in my guild who were willing to take me along.

Thunder Crest has a lot of quests you can repeat continually for gold. They're the ones marked with (re) in the quest name. I think this might be one of them.

Edit: Nevermind, this quest reset from the patchnotes for r146.

I love grinding games, EDIT played for years, but this grind for xp is something els, literally going around in circles on the same map for hours at a time, when all it needs is a load of daily quests that give decent xp and get people out in to the world rather then killing the same monsters 5000 times just so you get reach end game, at 45 I will have problems grinding as the gear will be max lvl and use full, atm gear is kind of meh

Yeah, but it'd still cost money :D. Nice way of putting it, though! You're right; it boils down to farming and how well one can endure the grind. As long as one can find ways to make it less boring (play with friends, prepare for and do events, look for uniques and other better gear, etc.), it's all right. A few breaks in between while doing something else, either playing other games, browsing other sites, or doing IRL stuff and whatnot, definitely make it better.

I found it a little slow to get the last third of the lv40 bar done when I focused on that in order to gain access to the Gleaming Mountains :D... it's kind of scary when I think about what's ahead, especially the new level cap. However, it just means that I will be playing for quite a while in the future, which is good. It keeps DSO a pleasant past-time.

    Actually I prefer Playstation :p

Maybe someone could explain how adding some minor reward for all the mindless grinding is a bad thing?

I can currently solo every map with the exception of Destructor and Mortis without any problems, but since there is no purpose in doing so, I find little desire to waste the time.

My current quest is the Ammon helmet (cata/crypt) which I wouldn't use if I had a dozen of them and while the maps are easy enough to solo, the drops are pathetic to say the least. At my current rate of playing time, I should complete the quest in a few more months.

The hope of getting some really great gear has completely expired. Living in northern California I have much better odds of seeing Bigfoot than I do of finding an incredible wand so all I have to play for is grinding for no purpose.

Now they finally did claim that they have enhanced the enchantments with this last update, but I haven't noticed a huge increase in anything during my limited playing time. I'm not saying that they did or did not make the increase, but with the pseudo luck required to find something worth keeping, it may require more grinding than I am willing to put up with.

This game had so much potential to be great. There are many good things about it, but they refuse to do anything about the grind, except to add more of it that it kills all the good things.

Again if someone could explain how adding some minor rewards to make the effort a little more tolerable would ruin the game I am all ears.

I lvled from 40 - 45 in less than 2 months, from quest exp and grinding.
Tips for lvling, use exp scrolls in partys when every member is the same lvl as your self, lasts an hour and is well worth the anderment. fight monsters that are same lvl as your self or 1 or 2 lvl's higher.
also grind in event maps when the event firsts starts, the hard core nut' will do so many maps over and over you will be shocked at the exp, and if you are using a exp scroll at the same time you will be gobsmacked at the exp.
    hope that help's

The addition of more minor rewards with the purpose of easing the grind would actually be great. Too bad that what players mean by minor is not what the devs mean by minor xD.

Goodbye Rhysingstar. I see you are retired now from DSO and don't like grinding, so I guess you don't need to visit the boards now. I wish you luck on your Playstation.

There are a lot of ways to overcome the boredom of grinding. They all require breaking up the repetition with new activity.

Competition with team members or against yourself breaks up the monotony. Beating your own records gives a great sense of accomplishment, and changes the attitude base. Running with players of different cultures can give different ways of doing the same thing.

Teaching others is good too. The teachers usually get better in the process. Guilds and friends' lists need tending.

You can also break up the routine with a quick tour through old maps, or a trip to Varholm or Blackborg to check the drop rates, and maybe find a hot instance. How many different ways are there, to do the same thing? Some people run the map backwards, or sideways, or without gear, or without essence, or with different groups, or speed runs against time, or just bosses, or whatever!

You do benefit from logging out and taking a short break, even if there isn't an addiction penalty for playing too long.

Indeed. This is more/less how I take the groan outta grinding. Because this game doesn't have your typical World Boss events (at least, AFAIK), you don't have to be online at a given time(s) every day. I find this very liberating and allows me to grind/farm whenever I feel like it, for however long I want. No pressure. Just doing what I wanna do, staying within the "fun margins." I'm finding (admittedly, somewhat begrudgingly) that a patient, casual attitude toward this game goes a long way.

well i did it, after 3 long days of going around the top of thunder crest, dam the devs really need to do something about that lvl 43 to 44 almost made we quit the game seriously, i can see a lot of people just stoping at this point, 44-45 seems ok atm 2 bars in and full quest book of quests to do, we shall see.

Gratz Danny, Hope quests get you close, but I remember a painful stretch mid to end 45 you should mentally prepare yourself for. The good news is grinding Stalgard and collecting gear for when you hit 45 is actually a fun thing.

Hmm, does the electricity bill count as an addiction penalty :D ?

Yep, I am of the same opinion ;).

Realy dont understand that grinding for exp. I have hard time to find someone to block my exp gain :). Getting lvl up its easy... play solo, on map that have mobs +5lvl than yours and you will lvl up in no time.

But than you will say thats not working for you because you cant kill fast mobs +5lvl. Why? Simply you weeken you character with constant lvl-ing up. This game is based on grind... but grind for items and GoP to upgrade that items. Grind for exp is simply wrong approach.

If I understand you correctly, I agree. I always try to keep a balance between my toon's level and its power, otherwise I could find myself on maps where I'm getting killed right away. I figure, as long as I can more/less solo a map, w/o essence, where the monsters are my level or 1-3 lvls higher, I figure I'm doing something right...hopefully.
