I've just reached lvl 43 (long slog ahead to 45) and just got my Ring of Life from PW. The stat range wasn't bad - not max, but pretty close.

My question is, is it worth wearing this or should I stick to legendaries that give dmg and other bonuses and just melt it

For that matter, do people wear the Amnom set? it's a pain to get and, although the set bonuses are nice, the stats on most of the armor itself seem to be fairly meh

I also recently picked up a mechanist belt for the quest of kill 50 commanders in Thunder - should I melt that also or hold on to it

Depends on what build you want. I have 2 lvl 45 rings of life for an HP build/HP regen on my DK if I choose to switch, plus 2 death rings for damage build/damage boost. I don't know if any rings are worth keeping you get under 45, I would suggest melting it and running ring quest again at 45, it goes fast enough anyway, fastest of all pw quests I find. But then there are better unique rings in game to get too. Then figure the lvl 50 pw's and what gear stats are going to be.
Bah, melt it. Keep the Mechanist Belt you got, you have to run Stalgard soon anyway and if you get the other 3 set pieces to drop you get that set achievement. If you're chasing achievement points that is. That set is interesting but not sure what to mix it with. I have all but the ring from it and would like to get that to combine the 4 pieces with another set to see how high I can get my crit damage anyway.
Anyway, gl with whatever you decide.

Don't be in a rush to melt it ... You might find it useful ... Health regen in any form, is never bad ...

For me the ring of life is a melt item. Losing the damage means mobs get to me. If I am doing a boss fight I use hp pots.

I keep it, as I do with every unique I stumble upon (except those bad, bad extraordinary uniques). Yes, I'm running out of space, but it took hard work to get them all and it's nice to see the collection every time.

Now, the ring of life comes in handy when I put on a defensive suit. Other uniques, not so helpful. But to be honest, I did melt my 1st ring of life (and a few rings of death), but it's easy to get it again from Q1.

Ok, I have a question about the mechanist set (of which i have the belt):

Multitoonz suggested i keep it in case i get the rest of the set, so i can get an achievement (if it works - i saw somewhere that equipment set achievements are currently bugged). Can you get the entire set from drops? I saw on the wiki that one piece you can only buy for anderment. If that's the case, it's not really worth the bother.

Afaik, the belt is a quest reward, 1 piece (the amulet?) needs to be bought, and the last 2 pieces are random drops in the misty ridge through stalgard region.
