I've been using 2x Jewels of Rage, 2x Solstice Stars and 1x Onyx Skull in my hat for a while now. With the recent event, I got another Jewel of Rage. Being a SW who focuses almost entirely on offense, I swapped my Onyx Skull for Jewel of Rage, of course.

But the question is, are there situations where the Onyx Skull might come in handy?

I can't personally think of any situations off the top of my head, so thought I might just throw the question out there.

The skull would get you that small tick of HP (7.5) in places that otherwise don't let HP regen like the circus and PvP. Although a unique benefit, I wouldn't elect it over the Rage jewel. Instead I would park it in an alternate piece of headgear and switch to it if you want that benefit. Mine is in my Warlord set that I go to when I want to max out beefiness. Although beefy runs the gamut of definitions.:p

I use the warlord set full time, except somehow I made it erm... as un-beefy as possible. :p You know how I function: who needs defense if they don't get hit? XD (Then follows up by soloing maps so I do get hit, lol.)

I haven't been in the situations without HP regen in a while, but I can see the point there. I might just shelve it in long term storage in some spare hat somewhere then.

I got my Jewel of Rage and had to sacrifice a Solstice Star for it. Lost 73HP and 6 Rage, but gained 5% crit damage and 1% speed (which doesn't put me over a break point, meaning it is useless in that regard). Not a bad trade. Also, it got me thinking and I made a Crit damage build with 1628-1923 damage, 1.57 attack speed, ~1350 crit, 303% crit damage for farming the 3 bosses for this event. Defence is garbage, but you don't need defense for this event (Except in the Circus).

Just a fun thought: the Onyx Skull, paired with two Rings of Life & Sargon armor set. Talk about regeneration o_O.

I do not run with full Warlord set all the time. I would put the regen in that item and Armor gems. For my attack hat mainly the casters hat I put all the attack gems. This is not how everyone does it but I just feel when you need the damage go all out when you are dieing to much armor it all up.

The mana stat from the Solstice stars are too useful to be swapped out for a Jewel of Rage for my particular build. :D

I use a staff, so warlord set is my offensive set. :)

Yeah, solstice star is not as useful for DKs as it is for all the other classes. Extra rage is not as helpful as mana/conc/steam.

For my DK, I now use 4 jewels of rage and 1 solstice star in my main helmet (sargons powerful helmet) and it gets me just to 2.10 attack speed in pvp, which just gets me past another breakpoint (and now i can switch from the speed pet in pvp to either an hp or crit pet). Using 3 shadow stones and 1 onyx skull in my switch vargulf set helmet for flag running.

For my dwarf, I haven't done much of the events and only have 1 jewel of rage and 1 solstice star in my witch chaser helmet (which rolled pretty close to max stats - 29 max damage and 331 crit). Should get another jewel of rage this week and that will be really appreciated for the critical damage % boost.

Not totally true. While 5 rage is not too useful, the 1% HP is really nice. In some ways, that stat it is more useful for a DK. I have rather nice HP, so 1% HP for me (because it is based on your base HP) is +73 HP... that is almost as much as a Flawless Amethyst. Compare that to a SW who's base HP is significantly lower, and they would only likely gain between 40 and 50 HP if they had some really nice HP.
