Prefer to solo, finally have strong enough stats to make Oceans of Bones doable, but tasks are taking much longer than anticipated.

Have killed the Death Knight of the Watch 36 (make that 39) times since I got the "Lord of the Dead" task, 14 (update: 17) of those after I finished the kills of the archers & foot soldiers.

Is this one like the Deadly Shards for the Cloak of Power quest? Should I expect to have to make this same monotonous run another 30, 50, 100 times before I can get that Hall of the Dead door opened?

EDIT: The randomness of this game is maddening: Previous run in OOB I had 13 Dark Knights (I'm still trying to get my Blood Iron Chips for the Weapons of Time quest), but the most recent run, there were only 2 Dark Knights in the entire dungeon. /whineover

EDIT2: Whining works: After another pathetic run, I nabbed about 8 or 9 Dark Knights in the next pass, netting 2 Blood Iron Chips and my 5th ever Deadly Shard! Still, I average 0.08 Deadly Shards per run, meaning it'll take me 150 runs total (not skipping any locations in the dungeon) to find the 12 needed for the Cloak of power. Sigh. Wish there was some redeeming value to this dungeon: The item drops are so infrequent, I literally just break even selling the mediocre loot to cover the cost of the green essence I expend.

#1 It's nice if you can solo the map with greens, so congrats on that.

#2 Yes. Expect it to last a while before you get the cape, the shards or the chips. I've done a lot of runs already and I've finished all the other requirements in that quest and only need the cape now... in the meantime I too have amassed a total of 5/12 shards and I'm very close to finishing off the ghost extracts and the chips; the cape & shards will most definitely come last, eventually.

#3 Again, yes... drops aren't amazing at all, so the only redeeming factor you get is the chance of getting your quest stuff. Heck, not even that one single boss on the map doesn't drop anything good (not even a guaranteed exo.). There can be another boss, the one you summon from the sarcophagus down the map, but we all know how frequent you can see him, i.e. once as you do the quests + every time one of the people in your team is at that stage of the questline where they have to click the tomb (which is also a pretty rare occurrence).

dkari, the undamaged cape from the boss is just merely about how lucky you are, in my main i got after 2-3 runs, and i thought this quest is so easy, but when i did it on my alt i ran almost 50 times.

also for the cloak of power i suggest just do the right side area, killing the boss too, and also the middle south area where ghosts and knights are patroling, if you can use blues, and just focus on the knights nothing more, of course if an archer is killing you teach him who the boss is, but i suggest to spend just the time needed.

This is how I did this. Once you go into Map 1 run 1/2 down close to the flag on the map and die. Kill the ghosts on the stairs and jump up. Kill the Knights here and work your way to the boss. Once dead rest. Rinse and repeat.

Morinphen - yeah, I tried OOB at Llv31 with blue ess ... instant death; I'm now L46 Ranger with adequate stats for normal world but events & PW are a challenge. One complete M1 pass takes well over 1/2 hour. M2 takes about 20 minutes with cheap buff.

Zamvel7 - thanks for corroborating that I'm not glitched, just unlucky :) ... and those archers kick my butt if I don't tread carefully

MegaNuker - I'm F2P, not certain I want to waste that much Andermant (especially as drops are so rare in M1), but an interesting approach

I now only have 2 more Blood Iron Chips to go; at that point I'll be stuck praying for Shards and that Undamaged Cape to drop ... not certain I can sustain interest in the game when the grind provides 0 rewards. But, thanks again to all who responded!

Oh, one semi-related question: Where do people farm since all the recent adjustments by BP (e.g., drop quality in Temple Sector plummeted)? Working chiefly these M1 quests I've been stuck at 648 Gold for a week; is Hall of the Dead still lucrative? I'm guessing that the answer will depend if one is looking for cash, andermant, uniques/legendaries to use or to melt. Are any of the new areas of Lor'Tac generous?

Well you could just run there and zone into map2 and back out. Also another free approach is to get invited to a group and while at least 1 person is in zone type /leave

i would not suggest that, since there are narrow paths all full with ghost, yes they are easy mobs but you may get stuck in between, i'll suggest just do the knights and then reset by using teleportation to town,

Meganuker, my apologies: I mentioned "M2" when I was thinking PW Grimmagstone; I don't know the proper map terminology ... I cannot get into Hall of the Dead until I get the Undamaged Cape in the Ocean of Bones.

I finally got the cape yesterday, and it felt goood :D. Sometimes, when things are harder to get, they give you a greater feel of reward :).

Basic ones: M1 is Ocean of Bones, M2 is Halls of the Dead. Q1 is Grimmagstone, and so on as those go. Some Qs have two maps, so you could see, for example, Q3 M2, which would be the second map of Q3. For more detailed info, see this: Between Worlds ;).

Congrats, Morinphen! I'm looking forward to the day I can wipe some of these ancient PW quests off my list ... but by then, I may be Lvl50 with no other main quests to complete ;-)

Thanks. Try this mindset: don't even think about it anymore while you're there. If you don't expect it, it will come. When I got it, I entered a group of 3 who ran for the knights. They were already in, so I rushed to help. They were at the boss... and one minute later, BAM. I wasn't even paying too much attention xD.

but dont lost track of the quest progress...or you will end farming and killing more knights than what you actually need, it happened to me once

Run #54 (actually, I think it was a few more, as my tracking spreadsheet got corrupted by Micro$oft OneDrive), finally got the Cape! That was 32 runs after I'd completed the rest of the task.

Now I can get into the HoD and start working on the rest of the real Cape quest.

Thanks again for the suggestions and encouragement. Happy hunting!
