Chat censor is stupid

Create an option in the settings "Unfilter text" or something. When it is clicked, a player gets to read nasty things that a player says so that they can then report it to drakensang asking for a ban (joke). I would appreciate unfiltered text when talking to friends.

The current censorship is stupid. Num is a normal word, short for number i guess, the word is fine to type. But "n u m" gets censored? I dont even understand what it could mean? If i was to write "can u make" it would come up as "ca*****ake".

"p i s" is another one that comes up. "did you use the tip i said earlier" comes up as "did you use the ti*****aid"

 

I've seen a lot of swearing in languages other than English that don't get sensored. No idea what algorithem the system is using but I don't know that it is based on language being typed. Maybe based on the base language of the computer connecting to the system? Maybe the language of the server?

 

My favorite that I heard from a friend (Sorry if I'm stealing your thunder), is that 588 gets censored.

 

I use TeamSpeak alot to talk to friends. Project kryptonite is an add-on that works wonderfuly. We even share screen shots Simi instantly.

 

Delete the "allow us the option to unfilter text please". I created two threads because one thread was a bug for an existing problem, about how the censorship is stupid, and the other was a new feature to be implemented.

I googled that word and found that it's a term used by armies for some profession whose could be illegal in certain countries !

 

Well, I'll tell you something interesting... you can. The chat filter is handled client side, not server side. If you go to the DSOClient folder and find "settings.xml" and inside that file is "profanityFilterEnabled="true"". If you chance "true" to "false" the filter is turned off.

All the other UI settings for the game are saved in here too.

 

@_Baragain_ Thanks. Interesting to know that the code already exists which means it should be really easy to implement. However i could not find the file you mentioned. Checked the programs (x86)> dso folder.

 

Go to Start->Search->Type "%Temp%->Find DSOClient->Scroll ALL the way down to find Settings.xml and follow Baragain's instructions

The only definition I could find of num (or n u m) was tasty so the filter makes no sense. Also, I set my profanityFilterEnabled to false and n u m still is blocked. Go figure!

I work for a company that publishes information about animals at a shelter. The gender of the pet is something the viewers are interested in. However SEX was blocked at libraries but GENDER was not...even though both were sharing the same information.

Context is everything!!

 

Of course, you can not have a conversation about Drakensang's chat filter without talking about "Bug point"

My good friend (on and off game) asked me, how much perls do I have? I had 102 at the time. When I whrite it in chat it was just *** then we laugh, couse I could not whrite the number with out geting it censured.

 

censorship is stupid and if u use it u are no differite , people need freedom of speach no matter if some get offended by some words , after all they are only words
