I generally play alone. I have found that most boss monsters are extremely difficult, if not impossible, as a single player. I would like to suggest that those maps with these bosses be offered as solo play, group play, difficult solo play and difficult group play. While I frequent join groups in wilderness areas, I have found it almost impossible to form a group outside of these maps.

There is a challenge to playing the game solo that is not seen in group play. And, at times, it is simply easier to solo because of the HP compounding that happens in group play. This compounding of HP is their design to address the differences and modify the challenge for a different number of people. It would be a difficult thing to do while being fair and smooth in how it was applied, so instead they normally just multiply the bosses HP by a % for each member added. Bosses that were added to the game recently have different diffuclty levels and all they do is add more HP and damage. Bosses that were added early in the game were given additional mechanics, attacks, speed, etc when they went from normal to hard modes. Bosses like Khally, gorga, Sigri, and Hera were early and display the added mechanics. Newer bosses like those in the PW's are just reiterations of themselves with the same mechanics and increased HP/DMG.

What makes it complex is that every toon has a wide variation in capability. The bosses you find difficult to do solo, can easily be killed by another solo player. So should they make it easier for you or harder for the other player. If they made it easier for you the other toon would find no challenge in it. If they made it challenging for him, you would find it impossible. Finding balance is more complex than just setting levels, as seen in other elements of the game.

A lot of non-wilderness bosses are even harder in a group. I can solo mortis on blues, but need to step up to purples or higher as soon as I group up.

Edit: bigpapa explains it better above.

Solo has the benefit of predictability. You play against a machine, a program running on a schedule to a millisecond. If you have speed, power, and technique enough, it is just a matter of time until you win. Or until you screw up and die.
Groups can give you more power and flexibility, if you need it. They also provide variety and entertainment. Sometimes they provide headaches and too much excitement.
The more OP end-gamer you are, the more you can choose what suits your moment. Guilds and a friend's network are worth cultivating.

The way DSO chooses to set the balance, it's hard to want to randomly help people which is a real shame because that is kind of the whole point of a mmo game.

When you get near end game status it's even harder to form groups because you need to choose players who can hold their own. For the most part it is simply easier to go solo.

as i said,in most mmorpg's u group to kill the boss. hence thee mmorpg part.being social and playing with others.
but' in this mmorpg the boss scales to how many people join. which is untrue to us gamers and is something new, which all gamers dislike.
it suppose to be the more in your group the more power u have to defeat the boss.
untrue, scaling higher hp and damage in a boss or mobs for that map is a lie and disrupts a true mmorpg.
this is a key issue that needs to be reprogrammed.once they do this, this game will flow normally like it should and more players will be happy.;)

I played most of game solo. Only boss in PW are little harder but others are easy to play... as Darwarren said "you play against machine..." so use your mind.

Boss can be problem if you just levelup your char and not take time to find right items. I played Temple sector from lvl 34 till it was lvl41 (and get all deep sea set, not that I used it :) ) just to find right items and melt to upgrade them. In some part of my play I didnt take quests just to slow levelup from quest exp reward. First thing you must do is make strong char... not high lvl, not char that finished all quests, not char that have all leg items.... strong one. Then no boss will be hard. From lvl40 it was easy for me to play new moon event when I have in party some char lvl14-16-18 (who just stand on the map).
