    Item 1: (412+260)40.88% = 946.7136
    Item 2 (with your 5 diamonds from item 1): ((512+260)23.36%)6.99% = 952.3392+6.99% =1018.90771008 (only on the item)
your Item 2 has higher resistance values than your Item 1 . However ... that 6.99% all resistance bonus will increase the resistance on your total resistance (I did calculation only for your item) which means you will benefit even more from the Item 2.
If you upgrade those items the difference should get even wider.

However ... If I were you I wouldn't add one more slot to the second item ...because that item is not that good. You can always find a better one ... especially when you rise levels you would save both andermant and glyphs.

    Very true.
OK, so here it is and this works for most stats with damage being the only truly complicated one that this does not apply to.
    Easiest way to understand:
    1. For every item, add up it's base resistance and any resistance gems.
    2. For each of these items, increase it by the % resistance on this item enhancement.
    3. Add all of these values up.
    4. Increase this value by any % all Resistance values.

Now, for your case, assuming you have about 3x other items with about 300 resist, about 500 resistance worth of gems other than the 260 that you are putting in the belt, and no other "% all resistance values," we can calculate the following:

    Magic BeltLegendary Belt
    Resistance from other items: 1400
    Belt Resist + Gems: 412+260=672
    Belt Resist w/%RotI: 672*1.4088=947
    Total Resist From Items: 1400+947=2347
    Final Resist: 2347*1.0= 2347
    Resistance from other items: 1400
    Belt Resist + Gems: 512+260=772
    Belt Resist w/%RotI: 772*1.2336=952
    Total Resist From Items: 1400+952=2352
    Final Resist: 2352*1.0699=2516
If my estimates were off, you can use the steps above to calculate the correct values, but if my estimations are worth anything, go with the Legendary. In the scenarios running in my head, the legendary will win in almost all of them. The only thing that could tip things in favor of the blue belt is if you were trying to upgrade the belt a lot since that 40.88% would help that base crit a lot, but short of upgrading it to LVL 55+ (60 if possible), then the legendary belt will always win.

That said, this is slightly dependent on the 5th slot and Trakilaki is right that it would be wasted andermant. I'd still use the legendary because it is better (HP and Damage), but it isn't going to be a huge difference.

  3. TwiliShadow

    TwiliShadow Count Count

Ok, if I don't add the 5th slot, then I have to not equip one of the gems, thus they would total 220 instead of the 260. I also don't understand why you applied the 6.99% twice [EDIT: never-mind the twice, I get it]. Thus:
Item 2 (with first 4 diamonds from item 1): ((512+220)+(732*0.2336))+(902.9952*0.0699)=966.1146

    Ok. Item list:

    Amulet+337.0000|+337.0000
    Belt+946.7136 (=672+40.88%)|+902.9952 (=732+23.36%)
    +6.99% all
    Ring+301.0000|+301.0000
    Ring+678.0000|+678.0000
    Pauldrons+4.53% all|
    +4.53% all
    =============================|========================
    2262.7136+4.53% all|2218.9952
    +11.52% all
    2365.2145
    |
    2474.6234
A 110 gain by going to the Legendary. If add the 5th slot, then gain an additional 55.0284, so no on the slot. (Maybe I have enough gems to combine the two 40's.)
So, 6.99% all on Legendary beats the additional 17.52% on this item of the Magic.

    Thanks guys.

    Hey guru's.

I'm seriously wondering why is DSO still your main game?

I don't want to start a whole bashing thing, I'm truly curious.

The best events are just a memory, obviously the dev's ignore a lot, the broken promises have become expected, so I'm wondering how do you still put up with it?

Do you hold out hope that new dev's will come along?
Are there just no other games that seem interesting to you?
    What really keeps you playing?

Because this is the last MMO game for me. If I quit DSO I will never ever play another MMO.
Not necessarily. We can throw few "guide lines" to existing ones ... if they continue this way. :D
Hell no. I am waiting for the new game from these guys:
    Not a MMO of course.
Friends ... and of course DSO Wiki. You think I can just let all that work go just like that? :)
I have put years of sleepless nights and days ... If all that time can be converted to one 7-8 hours day shift in BP ... that would be 10+ years long career I have spent for the community :D
    While the devs say :
I am functioning on cigarettes and coffee only :D
Eating food takes too much precious time :D

As cliché as it sounds, the community. In game I play with some people that I met over 3 or 4 years ago and they are interesting people and this game is my only link with them. Others I've only know a matter of months, but they are still interesting and fun people. In general, those I interact with are nice enough people, but in some other games that I have played, there seems to be a much higher percentage of jerks. "The community" also includes this forum. While there are some bad apples, most of the people here are fun to interact with on an intellectual level, and I'd count you among them.
I like to think of it like a pendulum. Hopefully, the further we swing in the wrong direction, the better things will be when the ball starts moving the other direction. I just have to hope that it isn't actually a bowling bowl that is heading to knock everything down and leave you picking through the pieces wondering what happened.
    I can dream.
I'm a cheapskate. I like that this is a F2P game. Most of the other games that I find enjoyable come with a price tag.
In addition to the above, I'm stubborn. Like, "Really Stubborn." I'm not going to give up on one of my favorite stress relievers just because I strongly disagree with 80% of the recent changes. Until the powers that be perma ban my game account and forum account because I'm just that big of a pain in their neck, I will keep coming back. I may take a 2 week to 6 month cool down from time to time, but in the end, I come back. The advantage is that I know that I will outlast those I disagree with. They will give up long before I do. Finally, I'm good at it and I like to help people and this forum and the game itself are avenues for me to help.

I was a little off on the enchantments on your items, but damn, I'm good. My estimates came rather close to your actual values. If you did add the slot to the legendary, I'd have only been off by 13 and on your existing build, I was only off by 18. That is an error of less than 1%.

I do wonder what it would be like if I had joined a different server when I first got started.

Tegan was never a full server, but it is truly a ghost town now. You can make 3 or 4 runs through 1 PW map and be in the top 200. It's sad.

The players that made up the first guild I joined back when Sargon was all that players talked about are all gone now. There were so many good ones that would go out of their way to help others or offer suggestions, now not so much.

There is no open chat anymore. There are barely any mixed groups.

I have no idea why they keep Tegan online. They can move the servers thousands of miles but cannot manage to merge them.

I remember spending hours and hours per day, now I'm lucky if I play a few minutes in any given week. The nerfing and ruining of what were decent events have left such a bad taste in my mouth.

I do wish that the people who do the artwork for this game worked for a different gaming company, I miss the incredible graphics more than anything else.

For a "guestament", I was really impressed by how close you were.

I'm considering building an excel spreadsheet, or a Visual Express VBA program that would save a persons config inputs and they could click and input alternate item for comparison that would show what the character sheet face numbers would be with the new item. Or maybe multiple new items. Either will be much later in the doing, need more order of calculations,... if I get around to it.

I've only been in this 1.5 years. I had just barely reached level cap {first game ever} and it moved away. Yes, there is some grinding getting from level to level, but on the whole I'm still getting new content. All the previous games, I would have long been completely through everything (all quests and maps) and then near the end of the "second go round of all the SAME maps and quests" (also called higher difficulty of some name). And it just repeats after that 1 to 3 times depending on the game, then you get to end game maps.

Imagine playing up through the burning coast (1st continent) and all those quests - 3 or 4 times over and over with the same creatures, just harder. And the second time through you can't beat the last map because even though you have items from all your previous characters, you're still not good/strong enough to win. I really liked my last game, just wasn't enough content.

Also, none of those games had forums that I got into. I spend about half my play time in this forum. Some of the other games had multiplayer/parties, but finding people that weren't just aholes was few and far between. Edit: tonight I've spent my entire time in the forum and thus don't get to play. Plus with holiday weekend (going camping in Yellowstone), I won't be able to play again untill next Tuesday at the earliest, Saturday (June) at the latest.

Yes, this game need some improvements (like chain lightning needing another link for a possible 7 hits, and higher percent of base damage - like the DK's third skill allows him to hit 1-10+ enemies for 100% base to each enemy without using rage {and actually builds rage}).
But on the whole, this game is both challenging and enjoyable.

I started on Tegan, first six weeks. My characters there were really bad. I gave up and started over on Agathon. Then I got into this forum. Still have mostly bad luck of the draw, but it's been playable. Sometimes I have to shift characters to get a new perspective (which is why I have a DK).

I started playing this game last September. Figured it could be a useful bridge between a high stress job I was retiring from and a much more enjoyable few hours a week of "escapism". I have to say that starting out, I didn't know my *** from a hole in the ground. Been gaming a long time but nothing with MMORG implications. Did not take me long to realize I needed help. This forum was just what the doctor ordered. There are so many helpful people here that deserve a shout out but I'll limit that to the GURUs, Trakilaki and Baragain for now. I'm impressed with your countless hours devoted to informing and assisting this community of gamers. I have met some most interesting people through this game and am enriched because of it. I quite often find the forums the best part of my gaming day.

Question for either or both of you: Knowing that not all jelly beans are licorice based, explain how that fact impacts the drop rate of materi fragments in the PWs.

PS: Hope neither of you GURUs go anywhere in the foreseeable future.

Tegathon! Now that is an idea I can get behind.
Simple... "PRNG." Some people think that PRNG means "Pseudo Random Number Generator" and that some magical number generating function in their computer determines their drop rates, but I'll let you in on a little secret. It actually stands for Pomegranate, Raspberry, Nectarine, and Grape.

Buy a bag of random assorted gourmet jellybeans that has all four of those flavors and licorice. If you can't find a brand that offers Nectarine, I could understand if you substituted Peach in it's place because no one could tell the difference anyway. Still, PRPG doesn't have the same ring to it thereby forcing the the purists will seek out truly a truly gourmet selection.

Once you've done that, separate out all the flavors of interest. If there are less licorice than the PRNG flavors, your drop rate will be improved. If there are more licorice than PRNG flavors, your drop rate will go down. This is a problem for most people because when they get a bag of jellybeans, they avoid the licorice ones and pretty soon the drop rates suck as the licorice outnumber all the other kinds of jellybeans, not just the PRNG flavors. In my case, I love licorice (one of my favorite candies is "Good & Plenty"), so this is perfect for me and my drop rates are always high. :D

There used to be far more grind in the early levels, which was both good and bad. I still get a good laugh when players whine about getting the 1000 gold cloak now. That used to be a several month grind through Halls of Dead. Man that was truly brutal.

Imagine if the regular maps were actually worth playing. Where drops were useful. Instead of speeding through them just to get to the parallel worlds.

Also imagine if all the parallel worlds were worth playing. Most are simply a waste of time.

Now imagine if this game were so entertaining that you would spend 90% or more of your time actually playing. Not that the forum isn't fun and informative, but the game is not compelling enough to keep the attention of most players and that is beyond sad.

There are many threads dedicated to that. The easiest solution to that would be for DSO to hire people who actually play the game. Maybe even some who have played the games that they rip off to understand why certain things are popular. Instead, DSO poorly copies aspects that make things worse (think CV system).

The biggest challenge is actually defeating what the dev's do to us when they go completely out of their way to ruin things that didn't need any attention.

It was enjoyable for me some time back. Some of the quests were interesting, the events were actually looked forward to, and there were a lot of great players who were active many hours of the day.

There was a time when players were begging for Sargon, then Dragan, and to a lesser degree the new moon (for the witch set). Almost forgot those early invasion events, those were wicked fun and hard.

Sure those sets took time to get, but they made a difference to your character.

Heck, people used to beg for Gnob to come to town, because we busted our humps to get draken to buy something useful. Now it's all slot machines and invented luck, and even then the gear isn't game changing on their own.

The worst is perhaps the imaginary timeline that the dev's created for themselves to update every few weeks whether any thing is actually ready to be installed into the game. They push through worthless [EDIT] over and over again just to meet this deadline. This is why they don't publish what they are doing until it is done.

Maybe if actual players had some real say in the development of this game, things wouldn't be so bad. Yes I know that sometimes after a few years of begging and pleading they throw us a bone, but rarely does that bone come without some really bad strings that leave us all wondering if any of the dev's have ever played any type of game in their entire lives.

Could someone please explain to me what it takes to beat the rediculously difficult greedy goblin that is in the Depths of Demise?

Seriously, if he can be beaten, he should count as 5 bosses. The poison one is nearly impossible to stay alive, the ice and fire ones are easier to stay alive. None of them are killable. What gives?

Seriously, the goblin is a waste of resources.

I believe the goblin is stunnable, so a triple stun DK should be able to control him. Also, a dwarven mech turret should be able to deliver damage even as he moves.

Big Hink is right... any difficulty above painful is next to imposable to solo. Double armor breaks from a SW's singularity and another classes' armor break could make a significant difference at higher difficulty.

I will give you a hint for staying alive (if solo) in the poison one though if you are not even trying to kill him. Start in one corner, let the meteor circle form, then move just out of range along the wall. Continue this until you get to the other corner and then start working your way back but slightly in towards the center of the room. By the time you get to the other wall, the goblin should be gone and you can move on. Your path should look something like so:
