I really like the winter event, doesn't take too much time, the rewards are pretty good.
for a casual player, they can finish the event in a couple days, for a hardcore grinder its just a couple hours.
maybe not for players that have been around for a couple years, but for me, this gave me a bunch of new stuff to add to my collector's bag and a nice little armor rune.

though one thing i wish was different... farming essences is quite tedious.
considering you can make sooo many beets from mobs, being able to use 1 per snowman with a loot pool of 2 / 5 / 10 / 20 / 50 / 100 is a little too slow... if it were possible to multiply the cost and loot pool by 10, that'd be awesome.

so we could be looking at 10 beets for 20/50/100/200/500/1000

essentially the same thing, just saving us a LOT of time. win win for everyone really.

The main event was easy, rewards are pretty nice. To those who complain that the rewards are bad, perhaps you already have the pets, mounts and gems and so on, so you dont need it. That doesnt make the rewards bad. Look at the big hunt event, you had to put in quite some effort, and the rewards where huge. With this winter event, the rewards are less, but the effort needed to finish is less as well. So i think the effort/reward ratio is actually all right.
Now it's just waiting for the challenges, and we ll see about them.

There has never been a reason for those to be in the map. It is an extra challenge, but there is no reward for getting to the other side. It is just time consuming. I dont mind them being removed, or maybe you can get a worthy buff for getting to the other side.
Personally i haven't had much problems with the shooting heads, but to those for whom it has been har, maybe this might work: Let the heads deal a percentage damage instead of a value. For example 30% of your hp at normal, 50% at painful, 70% at excruciating etc.

Thumbs up for this one. Especially for the lower lvl players. For anyone with acces to the great desert, you can farm up to a few k snow essences / hour there. Just run to the snowmen, ignore mobs and then reset the map. Keep doing so and farming snow essences might not be such a drag.

Hi, just a rookie here. But I do notice that the piggies, which are so fun in other events, are outdated in this main Solstice map. Once one member of a group clicks on the piggy, it takes that opportunity from all other group members. I understand that was probably how they were designed originally, but I have loved the way we can 'find' them in other event maps, share the information with group members, and everyone gets the bonus.

Just a thought for the future-- maybe the piggies in the Solstice map could be updated to the new way?

Yes, this event is easy and an occasional "easy" event is needed for the newer/weaker players. It would be nice if the rewards would scale for those of us that can run the harder maps. Right now you get the same progress amount of draken, ess, etc whether you run normal or infernal. If the rewards scaled (similar to the boss runs where you get more) that would provide more incentive for us older/stronger players. As an example, instead of getting 20 draken, it would scale depending on the level you run. 20 normal, 25 painful, 30 excruciating, 35 fatal, and so on. Same with ess. Next size gem or rune for those harder maps.

That would also provide incentive for the newer/weaker players to team up to run harder maps.

In theory it would be good, but those turrets are complete cancer on high difficulties, they should be destroyable

The event is good, easy and quick to run. Hate the RNG of the hat, though

I have always liked this event. I like the map (I love straight lines). The monsters are mostly killable, even for my weak toon. I like the drops.

For those complaining about the shooting heads... I feel ya. I hate that 1) I can't kill/disable them and 2) that there aren't enough "safe" zones on the path. Some things to help get through it is to max out your vitality on your Wisdom tree to max out your HP. Then get a few armor/adornments/whatever to up your HP to silly high numbers. Load those before starting your run through the heads.

Second, don't be afraid to stop on the path. Take a deep breath before running it. Don't pass a head unless you have seen it fire off. I admit sometimes I get impatient because others are waiting for me, but realistically, they don't want to have to revive me. Take the time.

I would love to have a different mount/pet than in years past. Or heck, maybe it could be something customizable such as choosing A vs B mount/pet. Or another option! Let me get something for having more than one of either mount or pet. Say trade in X number of trolls for some other mount. This will be the third year getting yet, another, troll mount. Their farts are bad enough. I certainly don't need three of them!

In that case, maybe i'd suggest 1 progress bar for every difficulty. If you enter a painful map, it counts for the painfull progress bar, if you enter an infernal map, it counts for the infernal progress bar, enter a normal map, it counts for the normal progress bar.
This way everyone can play an event on a difficulty of his own choosing with proper rewards. some players could even finish progress bars of several difficulties, or if that is unwanted by BP, players should select and lock a difficulty of their choosing and then they can only play that difficulty.

Btw, miniboss gwib is one tough cracker. And i haven't even met him with flame ability. I'd suggest to either slow him down, nerf his damage a bit or at least enable stuns on him.

I do not agree with this idea. For most events I run a mix of modes. If I was locked into obtaining progress or having to focus on a single mode, I would be quite displeased.

    ---MERGED---

Anyone have thoughts on the most efficient way to farm Solstice logs? I think I saw something about them dropping from mobs on painful, but that has thus far been slow going.

Based on info from the wiki page and this forum you get 12 progress per cage opened.
On challenge 1 there are 4 cages so 48 progress per run. So 2000/48 = 42. So we have to run Winter Solace map, kill Big Paws then run challenge map 1, kill Kranparus, then try to open cages without dying 42 times in 2 days 6hrs
    On challenge 2 6 cages so 2700/72 = 38. So as above 38x in 15hrs
On challenge 3 11 cages so 3300/132= 25. So as above again in 15 hrs
How the heck is any normal player meant to do that?
Also going by wiki you need solice logs in order to survive but these only drop from monsters in painful and above so will not be doable in normal mode. Thus making to above time scales even more unrealistic.
    Or am I missing something?

Why are you running after Big Paw while doing mini event?

You need a little more info.
Normal may be the "easiest" difficulty, but it is time consuming for the reasons you said. It is faster to do painful because you don't need to negotiate the entire map. If you can find a reasonably strong team and gear your toon for a little more defenses, you can run painful at a faster rate than if you did it in normal. The same applies in all the challenges. You can easily shave 10+ min a run off of by doing this.
Regarding needing solstice logs, "need" is a strong word. The mini event maps are covered in a frost until you kill the boss. This frost has a debuf that will kill you if it counts down to zero. Fortunately there are safe zones along the path and they are close enough together that you can move between them easily before the buff kills you. The logs can be used at points between the safe zones. If you activate these with a solstice log, it resets the debuf and extends your safe time. They are sort of like a "break glass in case of emergency" item, not a primary strategy.
    Yes, you are...
They are not... or at least not easily. You answered your own question without realizing it.
These are supposed to be challenging. Either you need to be strong enough to handle the higher difficulty or you need to work really hard to achieve the same result.
In normal you don't have the same path leading to the mini event map. In normal, the door is on the other side of Big Paws.

This is true but one thing to consider is, in normal it is pretty easy to run past most of the mobs and get to Big Paws. Then you get the benefit of killing him for 2 draken each time in addition to your Kranparus run. Useful if you happen to be farming them.

True, but if you are strong enough to just run through normal without killing most of the mobs, then you have the choice available to you to do it either way. Counterintuitively, I think that it is easier for a weaker player to complete the mini on painful than normal.

I don't think you remember what it is like to be a weaker player.

No, I simply understand the value of a good guild and friends who can help. I've been running painful and carrying people. I barely feel the difference when carrying, but they are able to do it on painful and do it faster than they could ever do it on normal. When I said "easier for a weaker player to complete the mini on painful", I was referring to my other post where I said:

Well, the minievent wasn't as cancerous as the last edition, it was fine.

I'm not in favour of equal drops in all difficulties, i think higher difficulties should drop more event progress and more coins

The minichallenge was actually pretty nice. Nice rewards too. But oh boy... since finishing all challenges will not nearly give you enough coins, this is more of run challenge. I just put all possible stats on travelspeed to get to kranparus as fast as possible. Run though m1, run through m2, kill kranparus, repeat. Half the time i'm running. Maybe for next events, the road to the challenge boss could be shortened?

Truly wish that the shooting turrets (or whatever's the name) were removed both from the main and the minichallenges. They only frustrate and discourage players to participate in the event.

After killing Kranparus, if he happens to shoot that frozen star that's following a char, the star remains. Is that a bug or what?

Then the minichallenge wouldnt be much of a challenge though.

The star dissappears, it just takes very long. 20-30 seconds or so.
