This post is primarily focused at new/paying players.

I have seen the future of DSO. What has happened to another BP game, Battlestar Gallactica Online, is currently happening to DSO. On April 7, 2017, the BSGO Devs made this post, which promised an updated HUD and world changes. Not surprisingly, these promises were never fulfilled. BSGO has clearly died, and BP is only doing enough to keep the servers online. They are still regularly putting on sales, so even though they are not developing the game, they are still accepting money.

There was a recent thread on the BSGO forum talking about protesting the Devs for not doing anything and another thread explaining the game is in a coma and the only potential change would be a complete shut down of the game. BSGO, judging by the size of the forum members, was even more popular than DSO. Also, the BSGO forums are still relatively active even though the devs have done nothing to update the game in two years. Like DSO now, the players of BSGO are infinitely more dedicated to the game than BP is.

Now that you know this, please do not waste your money on Premium Day, or give money to BP in any form. Why am I saying this? Because BP is lying to you about the game to get your money, and that is wrong. They will not add new things to DSO. They might give us the promised updates, but I doubt it. Most players do not even want what they said they would give us (PVP, tons of new farmable items for buffs). Since R209, what new content/assets/etc has entered the game? R209 wasnt even new stuff, it was just a rehash. The BDSM costume?? The devs have admitted they have moved to a different office. To a bigger office? I think not. This game is dead, but they will still be asking you to spend money on it for many years into the future, all the while claiming the game is doing great. It is not. It is DEAD!

You only realized it today?...why do you think many players have left the game over the last years.
If it weren't for Youzu, this game would have closed it's doors in 2016, due to financial problems (almost bankrupt due to bad CEO management).

Asking for the members to stop paying or buying won't do anything, if you want a response from the dev team...try posting an open letter to them or if the Admin/Mods are so kindly to ask them and give us an answer.

My best guess is that only a few thousands still play (between 60k to 100k of real players) and if only half of those pay, then its enough to keep this game open, but a very small window for game improvement or development.

Advise - keep playing until something better comes along or until they shutdown the servers.

Suspected it for awhile, just did the research today. I am not trying to get in contact with the devs. Better men than me have failed. I am just trying to inform those who don't know and are bamboozled into spending money. I still play, and I still update the wiki (actually that's what I'm doing now). If the devs start adding new content/assets/good events/ even old events, I will quickly start changing my tune. I want them to, and I hope they will. I do not support their secretive methods, which led to the death of BSGO, and I can see no other future for DSO than the same.

My actual ideal future would be for BP to hand over the liscence of DSO to a small independent dev team that would work on commission. All the servers would stay the same, but the devs would be able to add any content they wanted and basically do whatever they wanted. I know this is not even close to possible, but I fantasize sometimes.

Totally agree. It worths paying for good stuff, but this game is almost dead, dont worth spending a dime more. Time is also a valuable resource that shoud be spent wisely, having fun, not playing a boring game with lot of bugs.

Even if you're not trying to make "First Contact" it's still useless to ask or advise players of what to do...because most of the players (not forum members, at least most of us) of this game only care for themselves and not for the greater good or to even improve the game-play itself...players are selfish.

Only a close-minded person would not read key-threads of were this game is going and how fast.
All a player needs, is to read all the "Event Feedback Section" to have a pretty good idea of how this game is growing and how much the dev team is listing to the community outrage after each event.

As for "passing the torch" to a other company to manage/develop the game, that will never happen.
Youzu bought BigPoint for a reason and that was to enter Europe...fast n' cheap, instead of building everything from scratch.
Youzu has no intent of keeping BP alive nor their products, they were only after the infrastructure.

Lets see how long Youzu is willing to keep DSO alive.

A nice plea, but likely pointless. What is more likely is that people who were likely to spend before you wrote this post will spend anyway and those that don't spend anything to begin with won't spend anyway.

Related to the "lies" and "not add new stuff," I'd say patience. If you look at the game over any short span of time, it has its ups and downs, but the general trend is positive. Over in the "We want to old DSO back" thread, silverseas listed off several positive changes and then I covered a bunch more. The long story short is that the game is much better than it used to be, and, if you can ride out the occasional flop, it does get better.

Second, You don't need to "waste your money" on premium day to benefit from Premium Day. If you save up gold and ander, is a nice opportunity for people to work on the Collector's bag, get cheap gems, or get a couple of very unique pieces of gear.

Finally, If there are people out there with disposable income who want to spend money, more power to them. They are the reason I was able to enjoy this game for years without paying a cent, and continue to enjoy it despite only paying for premium in more recent years. I've never bought andermant, so I know I'm not a significant part of keeping them in business, making me appreciative of those who do. Trying to encourage people not to pay for this game if they want to makes no sense because that is the same as saying "I want this game to get shut down." How can you both play and enjoy this game while also trying to convince the people who keep the metaphorical lights on to stop supporting the game?

The PVE game is fine with decent content and options. I do wish they'll increase the number of endgame option builds, perhaps by making the new fatal world dungeons scale up to infernal III. That might diversify builds by having players trying out the T6 bearer of corruption or T6 dune set builds or T6 norseland/atlantis/myrdosch/duria sets without the need to spend an insane amount on augment cores.

The PVP game is where all the problems are located.

Sure, but how many people know about BSGO?

Positive changes from those posts: Enchantment Transfer, essences and pots no longer in PVP, easier access to uniques through normal dungeons, PW, and materi frags, twinks, premium, pw scaling per group size, unsocket gems, remove gop, steam mechs? (i don't get this one).

Fair enough, these are positive changes, but which one of these came out in the last 15 months? You have to look pretty far into the past to see these positive changes. In the last 15 months we did get the big game hunt event (another positive), but we lost dark dwarf heist and infested sewers, so no one can get the two runes from those events. What happened to desert of essences? Its been years since I've played that. My point is, the old pattern of up-down has turned into up-down-down-down-DOWN-COMA-death.

Agreed, i am only asking people to refrain from spending money, not necessarily from spending andermant.

You misunderstood the story of BSGO. The lights wont be turned off for years after the devs stop working on the game. All the money people spend now is not going to the game being developed more. If someone wants to spend money, that is their choice. I am posting this here just in the off chance that a new player comes looking for information on the game and wants to be informed before making a purchase. I also do not want the devs to be rewarded for killing the game I love. I have bought andermant and premium in the past and I would love to again. I would love for the devs to stream info and share their plans. I would love for the CM to start a character from scratch and play with community people all the way up to level 55. I would love for new content and old events to be brought into the game. Right now, DSO is entering the same coma that BSGO went into. BP will stop all development, and I can just go on enjoying the base game for a couple more years.

I mostly agree, but they also need to change the actual set bonuses and unique values to make those sets actually compete with PW sets.

For PVP, maybe what they need to do is force every to be a certain tier for the match. In other words, treat all gear as T0 (or whatever your preferred point would be); higher tiered stuff gets treated as max/perfect of the forced tier. Gems and glyphs and bonuses operate as they are now.

This way the ever expanding tiers of the PW gear doesn't continue to distort the pvp game.

One of the main issues with the above concept is shields - old gear had a base block rate of 3744, whereas new T0 gear is something like 1800; and the base rate didn't surpass old shields until T6. If you force all gear down to T0 in the arena, those old shields become valuable again.

    That is not enough.
It will have the same effect as T6 or T200.
The tier has to be T0 and the Base Stats should be decreased.
As for the game and new contents ... according to some rumors i am hearing new contents are coming soon ... though i don't think I liked what i have heard.

As for premium day and spending money on the game ... you can't try and stop someone from spending their money.

Do you know why am i almost always playing late at night? Because there are less people online in the game.
whenever i log in my chat goes mad and i can't even play. I am in contact with a lot of players ... usually they think they can report something to me or they can complain about the game or whatever, thinking I am a BP employee. How many times You and I have had conversations (wiki or forums) in the past 2-3 days? more than 20 times right?
Now ... include FB and the other media ... the world is too small :)
And yeah don't expect me to say anything ... because I won't :p

Well, u are not right in my opinion. This game is almost dead....why?

Level 55 can be achived in game in 1-2 months, and then fun is almost over. What it comes next? Almost nothing, mostly crap same events, same maps, hard grind, and hard pay if you want to be on top. Players skill doesnt mater almost at all.

    Is this fun?

    Why was more fun before?

Because wasnt so much crazy grind, and so many pay to win options.
    Because was more nice events.
Because it was a chance to be on top without spending crazy amount of resources at jesters for runes.
Because classes was more more balanced than it is now.
    And ohers...

I know that before was also a lot of bad things, not need to be mentioned now.

I think you misunderstood what kingcrazy meaned. He, and me and others wants a better DSO game, and this will never happen if some players still ever pay for crap. If somone pay for crap, maybe DSO team thinks we like crap, and always we'll get crap.

Lets dont pay amymore for crap., lets say we will pay only for good stuff. And if game will die sooner because players will not pay anymore for crap, be sure that it was meant to die soon.

Yes, we are still in game today, but i guess if no one hear us, maybe tommorrow we will dissapear forever. Your assumption that those who wants to pay will pay nevermind, is not so great , i am just saying.

I'm of the opinion that if it's something I like, enjoy, and (continue to) spend my time in, I don't have an issue spending a few extra bucks on the game as a "staycation" since I don't vacation like ahem, "normal people", do. I just happen to be enjoying DSO. Then and again, you're trying to convince someone who dumped 70k anders on getting fluffy white wings when they were first released so...

    So why are you playing?

My post is predicated on someone enjoying the game. I enjoy the game, and I'd assume that most people actively playing the game enjoy the game as well. If you disagree with what I wrote, I have to wonder what drives you to keep playing.

Also, many of your points seem PvP oriented, and I can't stand PvP. Maybe that is why my general satisfaction is higher than average. I want the game to improve, and, for the most part it has, so I enjoy myself. PvP has been a hot mess for a long time and isn't showing much improvement (but who knows, maybe that is actually in the pipeline), but since my enjoyment of the game is not dependent on PvP being balanced or fair, it is easy to please me.

So, now we know why I'm still playing and relatively happy (despite recent flops like the All for One event), I ask again... why are you still playing?

That one was a joke. The poster was complaining that his class, a steam mech, was sooooo weak compared to other classes and he was wishing for the good old days. The joke is "what about the good old days before your preferred class even existed, and then you wouldn't have even had a steam mech class to complain about being weaker than the other classes." For perspective, when I started playing, the only two classes were DKs and SWs, so that joke could also work if it was a ranger complaining that they want the good old days.

Tell me, do you understand the concept of a build?
The game only starts on level 55, after that yes comes the hard grinding it is because you want to be top and if not top OP.
Where is your passion for building something amazing that can withstand almost anything and can kill everything?

And as I have said, as soon as new content comes out, like a new PW or an increase to the difficulty of normal scaling dungeons, I will advocate spending some money. I just don't want the game to go the way of BSGO, but I think we are already in the coma state. I do not believe any new content will come. I will be very happy to be wrong.

But BSGO had a dev post on April 7, 2017, and has still not acted upon that. You could not have known before April last year that BP would completely stop all development of BSGO.

Been lvl 55 for ~15 months (I play casually, passively almost). And Yup, I still enjoy the game. I will continue to enjoy the game as long as the servers are up. (Long past the end of development. As I have stated, I believe there will be no more development of DSO).
Would BP tell us: Hey, we've stopped developing DSO, friendly PSA. No, they would not. They did not for BSGO.

If the wings were worth 70K ander to you, I am neither judging or trying to convince you otherwise. I am also enjoying DSO, but I do not believe money spent on this game will either allow me to enjoy it more or lead to more development of the game.

Woah! I remember the COTs, started playing in 2012, but I didn't know there were only 2 classes at one point.

Well, your image is a representation of the videogame industry as a whole
There are far more egregious examples of companies milking their games

BP is almost a saint in comparison to others, like EA, Namco,Capcom, Ubisoft,Warner Brothers
And let's not mention the "developers" on steam who cobble together a few pirated Assets to create a "game"

Not true. Ok, EA is much worse, but BP is worse than the other ones. Even EA, though has taken loot boxes out of most things and is adding new content to games like the star conflict game.
You are comparing BP to the worst and finding them not as ugly. I am comparing BP to the best and finding them wanting. (CD PR, DE, Winter storm, Beth suddy, etc.) The good game studios are doing better and better and the bad ones are going down.

By forcing gear to a certain tier I meant forcing the base stats of all gear to a certain range (such as the T0 range).

Thus, if you walk into 1v1 with full T6 gear, the base stats would basically be lowered to perfect for T0. All gear would be T0 in the arena and that T6 is basically gold T0 base stats. That's why I had the entire discussion about shield btw - legacy shields had no tiers and 3744 base block, and were often better than T0-T5 shields from a base block rating stat perspective.

I don't know if this will work. It probably won't as most of the problems began with the proliferation of % enchantments and the crafting of unbalanced items.
