honest answer: dont waste ur time on a mage. its the squishiest and the worst class.
Go for a DK or SM

I am a mage player for almost over an year with 35k dmg approx and I feel its waste sticking with this class. On the verge of quitting this game, just like numerous others.

I have played Mage for almost 4 years. And , yes , go for another class , especially DK. If I can change now, my first choise is DK.

I don't play mage because he's boring (to me). But whenever I have a mage in my group, they're always top damage dealers.

What to start crafting? It's the same for all damage focused characters:

    • Get a 2H wand, craft 3x gold dmg on this item + 1x gold increased damage, or 4x gold dmg on this item.
    • Craft your weapon adornment with as many increased critical hit rate lines as possible.
    • Craft gold increased damage lines in your belt and torso.
    • Craft a mix of increased damage and increased critical hit rate in your helmet.
    • Craft critical damage in your rings and amulet.
    • Then perhaps faster attack speed in your gloves and travel speed in your boots.
    • Aaand done.
You cannot go wrong with some mix of Dragan's bellicose set and Witch seeker set.
Add the Spider cloak or Cloak of Heroes depending on what kind of weapon adornment you're using.
    Rings from Mortis and Dragan.
    Torso from Q8.
    Staff from Q4 / Q7 / Blood Mage.

Sadly the game doesn't give you much choice if you want to deal lots of damage... Still more choice than if you were a ranger, though lol

I don't know why everyone hates the mages around here. I have been playing spellweaver for 7 years now (with breaks here and there) and it's the only character class that stuck to me.

Melee combat is not my cup of tea so I never got a taste for the dragon knights. I tried the ranger but for some reason I disliked the play style even more. The steam mechanicus is okay but the complete lack of tanking always bothered me.

With the spellweaver I like the full package offered by debuffs (frost wind, singularity, frost nova), mild tanking (guardian), combos (looking at you mind control) good resource regeneration and massive damage. It's rather skill intensive until you get used to it all but then it's extremely fun for me.

Now on the thread, my current build is quite standard
    - Mortis rings
    - Medusa amulet
    - Both full moon sets
    - Herald set

I still want to get my hands on 3 piece Dragan offensive set (ring, helmet, boots) to complete this build.

Alternatively I've seen people opt for the bearach set and even Sigri set (more popular with dwarves than mages nowadays). If i played more and had better resources I would be tempted to try bearach with high mana throughput (Grimmag's Starry Robe remains one of my favorite uniques in spite of never having truly used it). But alas we can't have access to everything or this would get super boring.

To update this conversation by my opinion, the mage can be powerful and necessary to other classes at grp's. I play a mage for 5 months and i got 43k dmg with 77% crit (inf4), i update my char always cause i play a lot. About the question if it worth it, i've seen the dmg that can raised my mage's with 50-60k dmg lots of att speed and lots of mana (more than 300), if you like the play it, it's worth it. Others need mages, for there critical dmg (group buff) & there guard, also, mages have a problem on bosses (less dmg than dwarfs) BUT they are not worst than others. Also, they are more confusing about gear than the others. If you search it you will find the best gear for your self. Finally, to give you a clue the best gear for mage after 40k is : full karabossa set 4/4, dragan set (ring, gauntles, boots), rune staff, q9 amulet, mortis & dragan rings. Most complete char at drakensang boys!!!

Sadly, these kinds of people are reminding me of the whining rangers (whining for 2h weapons) a few years ago. As we know, nothing good for the ranger class stemmed from this, even if those people might perceive it as good.

Spellweaver has the most build options of any class in the game.
First you have to decide based on your playstyle.
Some spellweavers will argue for Q4 set and others for Q7 set.
Some of the higher damage spellweavers will tell you to use bloodrune weapon.
Example a spellweaver with 4 witch seeker parts (belt torso shoulders and helm)
3 dragan parts (ring gloves boots)
Will argue that they get both the dragan set bonus insane speed and mana.
    However they have other options
It literally depends on what you want from your build
Lets remove 3 dragan pats from the equation just for a second
you will have 5000 less damage on average, however you will be able to use 5x destructor parts and the Q1 torso and Q5 pouldrons
This would be called an increased mana and mana cost reduction build.
For a good speed/damage build you can use dragan helmet gloves boots and witch seeker torso and shoulders with belt of zeal and 2x mortis rings then either the premium weapon or once again bloodrune
However you can skip the zeal belt and use q4 set if you wanted to.
The advantage most sws have is that they can use a wider variety of items and still be deadly.
