On a rare occasion, I poke my head in to see how things are going. I do miss you guys, but it is saddening to BP still seems to be the same old greedy, money hungry, player eating machine that they've always been. You have my respect for still sticking it out.

So, what's this question? My favorite memory from the game? That's a tough one...

    So here's two.
First, I enjoyed when bosses had interesting mechanics that required players to strategize how to kill them. I liked that tanks were pretty much a necessity as well as damage dealers. The perfect example is Gorga. When she was introduced, you needed a tank who could take the hits while dodging the nukes. You needed Damage Dealers who could manage the spiders or risk the map being overrun or the tank being unable to tank because of the pools of poison. You needed enough sustained DPS to counter her healing. People needed to time things well to get out of the way of the flood. When she came out, she was well balanced... not a trivially easy/fast fight, but also not so hard that you needed to have a character worth hundreds of dollars or thousands of hours. (I also just realized that, with the exception of Trakilaki, I'm one of the few who even remembers when she came out.)

The second favorite memory is probably completely counter to what I just said, but at the same time related. I really enjoyed fighting bosses solo on high difficulties with as little essences as possible to really challenge myself and demonstrate a mastery of my character and the boss's mechanics. I remember fighting Dragan on the hardest difficulty at the time with nothing but green essence and managing to pull it off. Or the time I did PW Herald and Sigris solo and back to back with no deaths. Or doing the Christmas map on max difficulty with no deaths and low tier essences.

In short, I enjoyed when skill and technique were critical and even celebrated in the game.

On the meta side, I loved reverse engineering the game as much as I could. It always brought a smile to my face to figure out what made the game tick and share it all with you guys.

I'll stick around for a couple days to catch up, then I'll probably disappear again for months at a time. Hope you're all doing well. ;)

Long time no see. :D Good to have you back, even if it's only temporary. I hope everything is going well for you over there. :)

I'm actually surprised that this one wasn't your favourite memory. xD

Oh, that was a good one! I seem to recall many people testing this bug... for QA/QC purposes. :p

Well, it made the list... just on the meta side.
Things can always be better, just as they can always be worse, but I am quite content with my current life.

I'm still really happy that I made the decision to leave DSO. Now, my gaming is restricted to weekly one session of party games or retro games with a couple of very old friends and an occasional offline game that won't suffer if I take months off at a time from it. Now, gaming is an enjoyable part of my life, not the sum total of my life.

like vintage games on MAME? :D
During these jolly times i am playing all the virus games out there ... like RE , Dying Light, Dead Island ... etc.
I have played a really good game recently ... I have discovered it by accident. It can be played on a pocked calculator but it has a stunning graphics. The story line is meh but the game is worth playing ... try it out if you haven't already , it is not a long one. (A Plague Tale: Innocence)

Did you know that when GameCube was made, it was designed that you could plug a Gameboy Advanced into it and use it as a controller/secondary display? Only two games were ever made that utilized this feature for 4 person multi-player. Me and my friend's have finished one and are working on the second using a GameCube emulator that was hacked together with four Gameboy emulators and played by three of us remoting into the 4th guy's computer to each control one of the Gameboys. Other times, we've played an old RTS, but because it never had online play, we have to use a privately hosted VPN to trick the game into thinking we're all on the same LAN.

    That kind of "retro." :D

We also enjoy the occasional round of Cards Against Humanity when the mood hits us. ;)

By your definition even today's breakfast is retro :D
It sounds like a lot of fun :D but be careful and don't over do it :D
I didn't know that fact about GameCube XD because I never had one
I had Game Boy and Super Nintendo ... then I continued gaming on PlayStation ... until early 2000s when I completely switched playing games on PC only.

(you know I couldn't resist xD)
    let me quote MetalTrump:

Yes. My wife and I played "Animal Crossing" on the original GameCube when it first came out and shortly there after learned that when you plugged in the optional Gameboy adapter and used a Gameboy Advance you could then hitch a boat ride with Captain to a tropical island where you could fish for the summer fish in winter (at home) and catch some bugs that were only there. Seems there was a house or shop or something else also on the island with another animal.

Good to see your doing well these days, Doc.

I am posting this because it amused me. With nothing new in my other games, I decided to give the Sargon event another try. I had levelled my mage up to 100 with 140 level equipment, mainly by grouping up to farm the desert. My dk was only level 65 with 90 level equipment, because I couldn’t find groups that wanted him. I did not really study the game after the last expansion, so I know none of my builds are optimal and they don’t have the highest level gems. My mage was not strong enough to kill Sargon in the Shadowfort, lol. My dk, because he was more tanky, killed Sargon fairly easily. He was able to solo Mortis while I had a Deluxe account and veteran respawns. I had previously said that my dk was unplayable, so I have to take that back. I was, of course, only playing on normal. It seems that there is still some entertainment for me in this game. Cheers. :)
