What are the best chests that I should use lockpicks, value-wise? Normally I'd say the x100 but im not sure.

Also, should I save for high level or use every time I have enough lockpicks.

Personally, I saved mine til lvl 100 then only use them on the 5 pick lock boxes..

I only use keys on 5 pick chests as they can spawn goblins as well as drop unique items in PW maps. Using on 100 pick/Legendary chests is a waste of keys.

In short , save them for the PW Bloodshed maps.

Or the Lingering Memory maps if you're still going for those items.

Thank you for the replies, guys. While we are on the subject, what is the use for gold except buying pets/mounts/costumes.

I'd also vote for 5key chests as well :) The other chests are usually not worth it, unless you are farming maps like Sargon event map 1 and really want some terror uniques (which only drop from mobs, chests, or amphoras in the map), for example - then you can consider opening a few 25key chests as well, if you have a lot of lockpicks already. But generally speaking, 5key chests are the way to go, and only for when you really need them ^^

Gold can be used for a variety of things, so you will benefit from continually saving gold, if not immediately using it. :) For instance, it can get costly to work on gems/runes/jewels, so a lot of gold may go in that direction. If you have premium/deluxe, you can consider buying the daily limit of infernal passages and the secret lair pass. You will also need gold for resetting talents on your skill pages, etc. Lots of uses for gold, so feel free to keep stocking up ^^

Upgrading runes/jewels/gems (in my opinion, in that order) takes an ever increasing amount of gold. Eventually you'll have a full set of all legendary runes, all legendary jewels and exquisite imperial gems ... but it'll take years of grinding mobs for junk gear drops that you can sell for gold in order to get there. Oh, and you need gold to turn junk runes, jewels and gems into rune or shiny dust as raw ingredients to craft the items you really want. They get you coming and going in this game.

Crafting potions/tonics/physics cost gold; if you're smart, you won't waste too much gold on buying the ingredients, but until you hit Qaizah, that's an additional expense.

Crafting gear and transferring enchantments cost Glyphs of Power instead of gold ... but you get GoP from melting the junk gear that you otherwise need to sell for gold for other purposes.

At some point, you'll be 99% upgraded so only need dribs and drabs of gold. Just don't expect to have that luxury in the near future.

Thank you all for the replies. It has been very helpful. One last thing, if i may ask. Which gems I can destroy for dust and which are more useful to be saved/upgraded?
I am playing a DK, if it matters.

My response is more general, not DK-specific:

If you look at the tooltip when hovering over a gem, it tells you the maximum number of that type of gem you can have socketed into gear at any given time (gems in gear that are in storage also count against this maximum ceiling). So, at a minimum, you can safely grind any amount of a particular gem type you have above that maximum socketable limit ... with a caveat:

Opals are special gems you create by combining 3 different gem types; the component gem types of an opal do not count against the limit for that individual gem type. For example, I have a royal opal which I originally created by combining an amethyst (HP), an onyx (crit) and a ruby (damage). The amethyst component does not count against my total socketed amethyst count, so I could have 50 amethysts socketed in various gear plus this opal. You can have a maximum of 10 socketed opals.

As for gems types to prioritize: onyx (crit), ruby (damage) at the start. Then toss in some zircon (attack speed), amethyst (HP). When you have more space in your gear, maybe add up to 10 rhodolite (movement speed) gems.

I have no cyanite (armor) gems slotted, but you as a DK who does a fair amount of your damage up close and personal with mobs might work those in, possibly before attack speed and probably before movement speed. I suspect HP will still be more important for you initially than armor or emerald (block rate) gems. I doubt I'll ever use emeralds, and probably not cyanite on my Steam Mechanic. And I don't think anyone uses any of the variations of diamonds (resistance gems).

And overall, I recommend that you focus on gathering an allocating wisdom points and grinding for then upgrading runes before you worry too much about gems.

You might also consider dedicating several backpack pages to lower tier gems; grab them all, but don't waste gold on grinding them for now. When you're rich later on you can grind them in bulk (well, one stack at a time). Or don't even pick up the lower tier gems: Lots of end-game player skip anything less than, say, sacred gems.

(An aside: My recent anecdotal experience suggests gem drops from mobs and essentially any special monster lower than a boss have been nerfed. Over my last 4 or 5 Parallel World Infernal and Merciless runs, I've only dropped one Polished gem, nothing higher from anything other than the Map3 boss itself. In those runs and a few runs in Normal World Temple Sector, I've also noticed a dearth of rune drops, with one rune every 30-50 special mobs killed, rather than 1-2 per map. Again, could just be RNG, but it feels like drop tables have been tweaked recently.)

For now, you can keep a stack of all gem types in your bag (from either simple or regular tier and up), so that you have permanent slots in your inventory that are dedicated to gems, so that it easily/conveniently gets sorted for you as you are farming them. When the time comes that you need dust, you can just put stacks into the dedicated workbench, click the arrow to select all, then subtract 1 so that you keep 1 gem of that type remaining in bag to continue saving that slot there :)

As far as which gems to use and upgrade, your most important gems will be onyxes (since crit is the most important stat), rubies, some zircons, some rholodites, and some amethysts. For pve builds, most players do not use any other types of gems. You can peruse the records here to see some good sample builds that people have been using, which gems and where, etc. ^^
