I disagree. If their main account hasn't been tainted by cheating then they can keep playing on that one. If you have two jugs of water and one was poisoned and the other wasn't touched, you don't dump them both when you know which one is poisoned.

Plus, the if one account violates the ToS and the other doesn't, then on what grounds do you ban the other account? Consider this. What if more than one person plays on a given network and thus shares an IP address. This could be a university network, a couple that plays together, a public library's wi-fi... etc. You really think that BP could get away with banning people by IP only? Then it would be exactly like Armando fears and lots of innocent people would get screwed in the process. Use your brain. Like I said before:
The only accounts that deserve a ban are the ones that can be proven to have exploited the bug so that they never get to use their cheater gains and they learn the value of playing fair. Why should I care if I fight a cheater's main if they didn't get anything from cheating on that account?

Nice example. Here is one from me as well. If one person hires another person to commit a crime who is the guilty one?

Yes, in some extend different person may use same IP to play the game and innocent players might get ban as well. I am sure DSO team can figure it out on their own.

It is harsh, however when it is clear that those all accounts belongs to one person shouldn't those accounts be punished?

I will leave DSO team to decide what kind of punishment they want to give to the bug users. All I can say about this thread is this---Using bug with one account and coming in forum with different account and defending oneself as as a fair players is no more than a hypocrite.

Its a bad example. And you're assuming a priori that things are clear when they are not.

So testing a bug under controlled circumstances with no intent to benefit from the testing beyond a clearer insight into this mess is hypocritical? Did you also miss the part where I said that I checked the test server first because that would have been preferable?

Myself and Trakilaki are responsible for finding and reporting more bugs than you could dream about. Also, did you know that some bugs can't be tested on the test server and require testing on the live servers? This isn't the first time that I've made a throw away account so that I could safely investigate a bug and get it dealt with. Do you remember when they implemented watching videos for andermant? I discovered, documented, and reported a method that allowed you to watch dozens of these videos at the same time and earn as much as 500+ andermant in a matter of minutes if your computer had enough RAM/processor speed to pull it off. In the end, it was patched silently (didn't even end up in the release notes) and the exploit was cut off. Do you think that my main account should be banned for that too? I do these sorts of test so that I am familiar with the mechanics of certain bugs so that I'm better able to find bugs in the future. The fact that this one slipped past me because I was in the middle of moving across the country for work when the event was on the test server annoys me. I may not have caught it, but I'll never know because I never even had the opportunity to bug test R171.

Luckily for me that BP isn't as crazy/unreasonable as you are.

And no. There is no way. Short of trying to peak behind the public IP address and get inside the private network represented by it (i.e. hacking), you aren't going to be able to differentiate between these accounts, so get down off your high horse and stop trying to crucify one of the good guys.

    Hello. everyone...

The IP addresses may be used as one of the tools to identify the wrong-doers but cannot be used to ban players. I agree with _Baragain_ -- too many people sharing wi-fi, whether at the school, library, Starbucks or the sibling in her bedroom would be cut off this way. Besides, VPN software is everywhere (free) so that would only cause a speed bump to their next exploits.

Besides, Bigpoint needs the cheaters to return with clean accounts. Non-players cannot generate revenue.

    Be kind.

    -- MERGED --

    Hello, everyone...

This is how coding and testing are done in the real world. Programmers test their code to see if it's stable. The official (company) testers then beat on it a while. Then it may go to public beta or not. Finally the code get dumped to production servers. Production servers are quite different environments than test environments. Some things simply cannot happen in testing -- Different environments, different variables.

_Baragain_ and Trakilaki are the "unofficial" beta testers here. You should believe what they say.

Babu_o_babu, perhaps you might stay at a Holiday Inn Express before you spout off again. You don't know what you're discussing.

    Regards,

We don't even get any sort of bug bounty for what we do like some games do. There is part of me that feels like sometimes I'm wasting my time doing these tests and reporting them and what I ought to do is just find and use them, but the honest person in me doesn't. I won't deny that I was tempted to use the Andermant bug I mentioned above on my main account at take say that I deserved it for the time I spent testing, but I used the the alt because I believe in a fair game.
