    Fellow SWers

Would you rather have 5 saphs for 25% atak speed or 5 rubys for 50 dmg increase ?

    Thoughts and reasons ?

    Thanks.

damage... whats the point of being fast if you have no crit hit or damage, might as well hit mobs with wet sponges....

why not try 3rubies and 2saphs for 30 dmg and 10% atk spd

Damage over speed for me. All the speed in the world will not make that singularity refresh any faster. I play mostly solo and need a lot of damage buff facing mobs while waiting on skill cooldown. Play heavy damage on my DK and Ranger too. Speed I get from weap enhancements and added 25% from polished saphs on each. It's enough to handle just about anything. As soon as my SW is 45 like my DK and Ranger, I'll find a good crystal and put 5 +5% saphs on it too. That is unless it is seriously lacking crit in which case onyx comes into play then.

    I would choose 2 rubys and 3 saph :)

I would chose damage. Even better if you put them into weapon with x% weapon damage enchantment.

Sapphire increase damage per second, Ruby increase raw damage so a mix of bouth would be the best choice. If your gonna put them in weapon make it 4 Ruby and 1 Sapphire.

By the way, there is a fine difference between raw damage and higher damage per second and damage per second wins every time.

If you want to be effective then you need to balance speed, crit, and damage. If you are going to PVP then you will need a little more speed. I put damage(rubies) on my weapon and sapphires(speed) on my focus.

for a sw speed is totally upto your comfort lvl. some prefer 2.0 with low dmg and some prefer a standard 1.6 with decent dmg

i personaly can manage to hit opponents even on slow speed and dodge most of thier attacks so i have prefer 1.35-1.45 speed and rest are all dmg gems. dmg is really important and try and get criti to min 45% (use dark pieces )

i would suggest do pvp with varing speeds and find a decent speed u are comfortable with and then rest put full dmg and crit

I prefer speed; playing slow is very sluggish and takes a lot of the fun out of a task. As you can see, there are several varying opinions here. I suggest you find your own rhythm. Just remember not to go all out on one stat, instead, find a balance.

    damage per second = average damage x (1-crit%) x speed + average damage x crit% x %crit dmg x speed
Test the changes with your stats.

From a math point of view, if you have high enough damage to begin with, you can get higher DPS from adding speed than you can from adding damage. A great tool to check this out is the Drakensang Optimizer. It allows you to enter all of your stats and it calculates your real DPS among all the other useful stats. With that tool, you can see which combination would truly benefit you best, and then you aren't just relying on the forum's best guess.

The only exception to this is if you are looking at PVP. Then Speed will likely take a priority as a little speed in the arena can make a big difference, but a little damage is only a drop in the bucket.

I am no math expert. If the user has 400 base damage I think that 50 more is no big deal compared to casting 5 spells instead of four. What do you think ?

This blog post sold me on getting speed gems. But as others have said, useless without a balance of the rest :)

If you are at cap level and you have 400 base damage then it is a big deal :D

Experience, (and to be honest, personal preference as well) tells me to go a little heavier on atk spd than damage. Wet sponge or not it can be very painful waiting on the lightning strike to discharge while the bad guys are beating on you.:) However, as has been pointed out here, it should never all of one and none of the other, there must be a balance.

I love speed :) (still using old Mortis wand since I can't find anything to match the speed and damage). I try to make up the difference with other gear.

well might work for dks but it's not the case always for sws. First thing If you're planing to go gear up for pvp, you need more dmg than speed. I'm not saying all out dmg but look at this way as sw in pvp there are only so many shots you can make before you have to run for dear life, of the 2 or 3 shots you fire I think it's better to make them count your mana depletes after 3 0r 4 shots anyway. For a dk you get more rage as you hit so the faster you can hit the more good it is for you as you have more rage build up and you can walk away from the dmg from the other player. For boss runs I'll still go with dmg unless you have some insane speed. As for the rest of pve speed will save your life more especially with lightening chain and stun for a very good crowd control.

Btw super009 I think the old mortis wand is much better than the crapy one they have now when upgraded nice choice

Wrong mate, every DK that playes pvp gets more rage when being hit by other player, so rage biuld up is not a problem, damage it not a problem if it's 550+, speed is. my at the moment speed is 1.65 it is a ok speed but i do need more, I'll be happy with 1.85 no need for more.

With my witch hunter I have 420-720 dmg at 1.5 speed with 50% crit rate hit and 370% crit dmg increase. I think speed is fast enough now gotta increase damage for my personal goal.
