Is there a newbie guide in here (tips on joining guilds, leveling, etc) or am I best served just using Google? Also, any pros and/or cons that I should be made aware?

Well, you have already found the forums, so you have two more things you should take a look at. First is the Official Guide. Second is the Unofficial (but highly useful and accurate) Wiki.

These are mostly facts and things like that, but they are both still a lot of help.
