What Gems are the best for different classes?

I believe this could be divided into three main categories. Please correct me if I am wrong.
1. Best gems for weapon slots
2. Best gems for weapon adornment slots
3. Best gems for other gear slots

I have some understanding about the DK class, and I believe for DK it would be:
1. + Damage gems for weapon slots
2. + Attack speed gems for weapon adornment
3. + Resist gems for other gear slots.

Am I correct?
What about the other classes?

And I am not concerned about when I am low level. I am saving up for high level. So, I am only worried when I am at level 45 what should be my choices.

 

Resist and HP for other gem slots. You only need about 1200-1800 resist at end game (pretty much full radiant on your left hand side items.), so the rest can be HP gems (or special gems in the case of the helm). The other exception is if you get lucky at the gambling tables and get the % armor stones or the % travel speed stones. Those are always good to use, but most of us will never be lucky enough to see one let alone a full set of 5+

 

so.. if i get one 2% speed gem, does it worth to switch a +60 cianite for it?

 

Thanks. Is this same for all classes? Or would SW, Rangers and Dwarves will need different gems?

 

It all depends on what you want to achieve with your character and what kind of build you want. There are many variations of combat you face in pve and pvp, thus one ratio of gems may or may not be most effective/beneficial in that particular situation.

However you'll find the majority of all classes have something like 5:3:1 (25hp, 15resist, 5armor)- assuming all slots are open and you use 5 'special' event gems in your headgear. Most people focus on health, since it's affected by knowledge % increases, and in general has the most % increases from items and item sets therefore giving you the most value for a gem-slot.

 

Personally, I go for 20 HP, 20 Resist, and 5 special (head). I don't have any of the speed gems or the % armor gems, but I would use the speed gem in PvP and the armor gem all the time with a nice torso. I have one +60 armor and four +45 armor gems, but they live in my Defender's belt for the rare occasions that I need to push my armor in 1H over 6k.
