The twitch session about Guild Wars showed an existing map that had been modified to have 5 points of control. Control of those points would determine scoring for the team.

The map does have biases for offense and defense, depending on which doorway is your start point. Travel time is a real game changer. Even switching sides doesn't help so much; if it is best of 3, 1 side still gets the shaft. Many players are familiar with the map problems of Storm the Fortress, where Blue has built in disadvantages of travel time, and map layout.

For the best sense of fairplay, the map must be symmetrical and perfectly balanced, like a soccer field or tennis court. There would be no physical advantages to either team. Obstacles and protection features would be identical on both sides.
I suggest an oval stadium with a home spawn point on each end. Each side would have 2 goals on their side of the arena, with 4 goals possible.
In the very center could be healing station. It could work for both teams simultaneously, or be another goal, controllable by only 1 team. Another option for the center is a 5th goal.

This should not be much of a design problem, easily done by an efficient crew on schedule.
