I'm curious about the state of guilds in this game. Anyone who's just starting to play DSO and who comes to the forums looking for a guild won't see a lot of posts from people advertising their guilds (well, at least compared to some other games I've played), and yep I'm aware of guild sub-forums. I expect that most guilds in any game will disband within a few months due to the effort required to keep them active, and I'm sure that's an issue here as it is elsewhere. As for guilds in this game...

Are there not many of them?
Or are there a lot of them but they aren't too active?
Or do they advertise mostly in-game?
Or do they not like to advertise anywhere?

Having been in several guilds in other games, there are benefits to being in them, aside from the obvious social aspect. Some of the best times you have in your entire life can be spent online with guildies. But does that kind of atmosphere exist in this game? Or DSO mostly for soloing and pugging?

I'm only level 25 so I have no idea about the guild atmosphere at higher levels, hence the curiosity. Although I play on Agathon, I'm not looking for a guild. I'm just curious about that aspect of the game.

I think there are many active guilds. One of the rules on the forum is not to spam with the same post. Therefore, the guild introductions come once with occasional updates.

Some guilds have websites/forums where offline conversations happen. Some use Skype/Razor type of communication to speak with guildies real-time. Some guilds restrict membership to certain levels or types of play (PvP vs PvE). Others take everyone.

Besides the social benefits of a guild, other members are often fonts of information, particularly when you are low-level and they are not. They can help you finish quests or give you advice on how to best tackle an event.

The game itself gives you benefits for being in a guild. The more guild members, the more experience you get, the more badges of honor, and the more coins drop from monsters.

In the future, there has been talk of creating guild halls and guild wars/battles. This appears to still being in the "talking about it" phase but that is better than otherwise.

    Hope this helps!

When DSO ever decides to add in some features that truly encourage guilds, you'll see them actively seeking members. Right now, it's mainly a social thing.

As a clan leader on agathon We normaly just recuit by word of mouth . Meaning friends of friends join the guild or We get referred by other english speaking clans.

Some do post in guild forums , Some hunt down Players on forums looking for guilds.

As Rhysingstar says its mainly a social thing. The small bonus you gain isnt much and hardly noticed.

I wish there was more features , more promotions to give out as leader, More Benfits for having a guild. But those days may never come.

I have all sorts of things that I'd love to see added to guilds, both functional and ascetic, but there are other things I'd prefer to see.

I really don't care about guilds so much. I just would like help taking down the big bosses. And I don't know how a newbie would be able to find help. The "Friends" thing doesn't help much either. So at the moment, I'm left with leveling by my self and trying to figure things out. Which is ok. I'm a patient person. But it makes the game less interesting.

The experience boost is useless once you reach lvl 50...and the drops aren't significant either. The guilds don't advertise much, I joined my current guild quite by chance. By chance I meant I met this random guy and he pretty much introduced me to it and let me joined.
