(if you want to quickly help me but not read the whole post, just read the bold text ;) )
To start with, the xp system is weird.

I myself was 35 and my friend 32... we first did a round in the eternal watch(lvl35)... and I got around 9k xp and she got about 3k xp. Which I figured... was about 30% as pointed out in the wiki article.

Just to be sure... we did a round of the 'Hailstone mountains'(lvl 32) and I got 4k xp... and she got nearly 4k xp as well.

Which isn't very logical since the character level difference is the same, even though the npc's were her level. So, it seemed like when you're paired up with a higher level character (within the 5 level range) you're better off farming mobs the same level as the lowest level PC.

This because those npc's are obviously easier and faster to kill and everybody get's the same xp.

And in my case, getting more xp than my friends defies the purpose of helping them to catch up. (I just level more since I have more time, I try not to do quests but... events, pvp all added up in a 4 level difference now).

Can anybody confirm wether what I just said is true?

Also, could anybody tell me what the most efficient way would be to help my friends catch up with XP when we play together?

Helping them complete the quests doesn't really help since they always need to grind the majority of the levels.

On a sidenote: I'm generally disappointed with how grouping works... basicly it's shared xp, less loot (especially in events... event drops should be the same amount pp regardless of group, since the shards are the biggest bottleneck) and if there's a little difference in level a decrease in XP.

All quests take longer to complete except the rare kill quests, especially since wilderness areas seem to run out of mobs often.

Do all quests for your lvl and farm Sigi (Boss there) but farm him with your lvls you will get less xp if you are in group with lower lvls.

I think you made some mistake in calculations, xp for mountains is ok (since they are her lvl, and for you they are low lvls) but no way for whole clear lvl32 to get only 3k in Eternal watch.

Groups usually targets same lvls doing same quests which makes if faster for them to do quests and get that rewards xp faster.

And you are not correct about quests that is just fast xp, if you rush them you will ran out of them and have a problem since you will have to farm day and night for next lvls.

When a monster is higher level than you, the level difference counts as a bigger disadvantage than the advantage of a monster that is lower by that same amount. In other words a level 30 player vs level 32 monster is more of a difference than a level 30 player vs a level 28 monster.
Players get full exp if they are in the immediate level range of the monster (level should be yellow) but once you start moving away, exp decreases. So exp gain is lowered as the level of the monster is lowered but why is exp gain lowered when monsters level is increased? Wouldn't it make sense for the player to gain more exp if they're fighting harder monsters? Sure, but it is meant to prevent players from leveling up too fast.

Imagine a very strong strong level 10 killing Gorga or something. If exp were increased when fighting higher leveled monsters, the exp gain from that kill would be tremendous.

Your friend should continue fighting Hailstone Mountains until she levels up... or do quests if she has any. Once she is level 33 she will probably get around 5k exp per run in Eternal Watch. At level 34 exp gained 7k... etc.

@Talicni I'm pretty sure it's correct... I wrote down the complete amounts of my xp before and after the runs, and she did hers. (though in calculator so I sadly don't have her numbers anymore).

Also, from level 28 onwards, if you don't do other things except quests... you will run out of the for sure and have to grind the remainder of your level before you get the new ones. All three of us had that problem (even though I pvp'd a lot in between). If you google you'll find a lot of people with similar problems.

Also, mind you I don't care about my xp when I play with them, I care about theirs so I want their xp gained to be as high as possible... and boosting them through quests isn't the answer to that since they can do that alone easily. :)

edit: since I posted at the same time as @TheInfamous

Erm, yes you're right... I guess my post isn't as clear as I thought it was, I'm sorry.

My point about the 'higher level' was... if for example, I'm level 39.

    My friend is 35.

We kill a level 39 NPC in a party, which let's say gives 100xp.

I would expect... that the party would get 100xp (100% since the npc is the same level as the highest party member). In this case I would get 50% of total xp and she would get 50%).

Instead, as I found it out to be.. since she is partied with a higher level character, it seems like she's getting a reduction on her part of the 50... (which I extrapolate from the fact that she got only 3k xp from a run which got me 9k xp).

which is the part that seems unfair... since we're doing a 39 area with a lower avarage party level.

But I'll retest just to be sure, and I'll get back at you.
