mage is a soloable class, mind control is pretty broken.

literally faced the same issues in march/april, only a handful of english speaking players, and say maybe 15 active players some nights. create your own parties with auto invite on, or request to join parties, just know that not everyone likes to carry people since monster level is rounded down to player level averages (140 to 90), and being carried, means your probably barely doing 5% of the damage (or far less).

everyone farms desert, or PW.. but with the recent patch of i think R_250, PW access is hard to finish with crazy boss that is solo only..

anyways doing cardhun access at 55 (in grimford), the quests within that area, along with repeatable quests is enough to take you to 70-75 from 55.

To be fair; this community is quite hard to get into. Even if you play for years.
People tend to play with their own guild/friends and you wont get a spot since youre not OP. You will only find people who are as weak as you and teaming up with them wont really make things easier. You might make some friends, but they come and go in games like this where certain updates make people leave the game.

Sure you might be lucky and get carried on higher mode and be able to get a couple items, but even then you need 10years in order to make high tier gems/runes/jewels. So getting carried really wont solve your issue in my opinion...Dark Legacy is simply not new player friendly. (heck its not even oldschool player friendly unless you OP and farmed certain items like crazy before the DL update)

So best is to just take your time leveling up/maybe some events and dont really expect anything, or find a different game :)

I agree with this. I've been playing on and off for 8 years. I have chars on 2 servers. I have chars in each class, one is lv 100. All my friends quit 2 expansions ago. All my guilds died in the last expansion. I can't get into an active guild. If you were OP, you could probably make some friends, but you have to spend a LOT of money to be OP. You absolutely can't get anywhere playing alone or with people at the same level as yourself. I play a little if there is a bonus code or if there is an event to try.

I have to disagree on many points people try to validate through years of experience.

DL is a totally different game than your old 55 cap game that died in dec 2020, let alone how much it has altered from R_245 to R_251.
(yes I understand, 10 years playing 40-55 cap, all progress lost, you guys got HOSED, and understand why everyone left)

I started in february of 2021, i capped level 100 in may 2021, and lost most interest by july 2021.

I have solo'd all PW gear at 135/145 level with base stats of 85-90%+ in respected stats but still hunt for a unique belt, gloves and brigavik's lingering memory unique crit boots. (you dont even need boss kills, any champs in PW drop world and PW uniques, and now desert drops all world uniques)

I've spent ZERO money on this game (my time yes sadly, which is more important). To feed the andermant costs i did a second playthrough to level 67 on ranger which took 3 weeks or so for 45k free andermant, amongst 200 from free dailys, chests and event/codes (mainly to unlock gem slots/rune slots/inv).

I farmed all my runes between level 60-90 in desert mostly (when it was merc/bloodshed only), bought 1 crit rune through draken trader.

The hardest part by far is wisdom (80), jewels (1), runes to legendary (16), and gems way past trapezoid. Yes THIS, this alone is something that can take a year+ or years more if your very casual, but without motivation for the above, whats drives a person to stay, if the community is dying/dead. (wouldn't say its required, but sure does help damage and survival).

In regards to being OP.. yeah bullocks. all my groups, i can say without a doubt, you cant tell how weak a person really is, unless your trying to run blood chests, or bosses... in most parties in desert this isn't going to matter much, as the OP guy/s carry it regardless. (i was booted once out of probably 35 parties, sadly almost all my parties were different language speakers)

The worst aspects of this game is the sheer attrition of players over the last decade, in a game that is designed heavily for group play and not meant for solo. In fact its so out of tune, theres minimal information regarding DL content changes, DSO info in general, that leaves a lot of players blinded and lost asking on forum for information, or demanding instant gratification play.

I Give a nice thank you to traki? on the old dso wiki which is still useful, velveteenducks guides on youtube for SW and events, hamuluks videos, and pauperesque for the help when i first started.

So with that, I feel NO this game doesn't need 8-10 years of play. No you dont NEED to pay $$ to play if you know where to look. Yes i agree with both above on not rushing, because without community players, grinding rune/gems dust gets boring fast solo. reap promo codes and selectivly play on good events. (sargon is now the worst repeatable event ive seen)

I find this very hard to believe. Or offcourse youre a mage who can mind control/guardian and not get hit once.

not only did I hint at it in the first reply since the original poster was mage, I also layed it out in the second. I get hit once/twice and im dead, and I die often, Mind control is SW's only ability not to get jacked 100%, were not tanks ^^. guardian heals as of the last update, but playing bloodmage comes with more risks of death.

You do realize there are people doing rising hero event and doing multiple runs to level 100 in under a week/few weeks right? (in fact when I was online two days ago doing BGH, there was about 25 parties in temple sector leveling!), this makes my work of constant grinding for 3 months seem pathetic and very long lol.

As far as gear, whats hard to understand about that, you can literally walk into any map on merciless free, train all champion debil death mobs to a central location and murder them for drops and rinse and repeat (2% albeit). Have you tried desert in a group setting on merc/bloodshed, you know that map with 2%/6% unique drops and infinite respawns?

    https://imgur.com/a/V7W0fOx

by no means is this the greatest gear set, let alone top notch 145 enchants, or gems, but its enough to compentantly get through merciless fine, and run bloodshed. varying base percentages from gear IMO doesn't mean TOO to much. (aka lvl125 -100% base = 135 -95% = 145 -90%). In fact you could easily play through this game without uniques/gem slots, and scrub all legendary pieces with high base % (along with enchants).

yes the majority of drops you receive are going to be scrap, its all luck. maybe im just super lucky, or maybe, its because I dont sit in cardhun crying about it.

I will attest that class balance and changes are certainly in need of some work. I feel like SW/Ranger have it easier than SM/DK which fall way short where you absolutely need group play.
I also attest that I still find plenty of players who dont understand skill trees, speed breaks, or how to maximize damage potential and survival. IF one doesn't learn, you will never get past fatal difficulty.
The amusing part of spellweaver is how i never used mind control at first, started with lightning, moved to fire, back to lightning, and didn't use an ice build til late game. difference being? um one does about 300k damage tops, the other 1.8/3.6 million damage per hit (basic essences) with correct usage of skills/crit/gear. (frost wind x20 stacks, ice mastery, maelstrom, nova to break armor and resist 100%, and ice needle pounding with 4.0+ attack speed). since Original poster is a mage, and any mage can start here, further disproving needing to be "over powered". if anything spellweaver is in general "over powered" in itself. Most of the groups ive been in, i feel like ive carried every group in terms of damage that comes from this build.

    - hamuluks guide on ice build. its a touch outdated not reflecting recent skill talent changes (blood mage), but the premise of ice damage build and stacking is still OP. Fire build is still okay in some situations, but more or less i feel ice is just brutally strong.

as far as losing interest, looking at what i need, its boiling down to a few pieces left that dont drop often enough, and when they do its well below acceptable %.. resulting in countless hours of farming pretty much rune/gem dust. boring. Theres certainly better options out there in terms of games to waste time on that are fun or give more return value.

I wont say either of you are wrong, you are both correct. I feel like codes and events only are the way to go now, you know what your getting, farming in general is a crapshoot, and much slower solo. groups and gear do not fall into your lap, you have to initiate an invite or make friends which is difficult in a dying game / low population game...but do not leave out the fact that solo is entirely possible ^^

Its funny....i can grind desert for days and not drop a single unique. Ever since im back, i grinded wisdom level 200 to 207 and not see a single unique drop except some lingering crap after 100s of portal clicking and useless runs.
My turrets get destroyed in 1 hit and i revive and jump/run around more than i can play it seems.
I kinda understand i rarely see any dwarfs anymore :)

And sorry if this is an insult, but looking at the gems n crap you got in only couple months, you are a nolifer. I play for allot longer (but i guess not as much per day as you) and i cannot play bloodshed without dieing over n over again and it looks like its just a class thingy.

Dwarfs are crap to play. I leveled a mage for fun and im able to play high modes with a fresh toon almost easier than years old dwarf that was able to inf4 solo with my eyes closed.

For me its simple, they destroyed my class and everything is unbalanced as it could be. Used to be able to inf4 solo....now i cant even inf1 PW without dieing over n over again and needing to use more potions than i can buy. So solo isnt possible , maybe for mages....not for me anymore.

It has its moments where there's a lull and nothing drops, but im positive any difficulty under merciless and its practically 0.

This is why i stopped playing ranger. i can still do fine on lower difficulties, but with the one of the latest skill balance updates, i can effectively no longer do merciless, the mega wolf gets jacked so fast, I temp tree to compensate, but still end up running around like a fool.

I admit I played this game in feb-may like a FT job w/ unpaid overtime... since then about 15 hours for summer event, 5 hours afew days ago for BGH.
under normal circumstances, will all honesty I feel like what I have done could be reasonably done in 6-18 months under casual play? I would also suggest if classes are struggling and im over here maiming champions in 4-12 hits.. thats kind of an unfair example of just how broken classes really are... and perhaps other classes could never do it.

As far as gems/dust, a good majority is from fatal/inf/merciless medusa (farming wisdom, but 5x gems per, also for bgh), champ mobs, treasure chests. The largest sum was epic/legendary cubes from the free couple weeks, never bought premo (royal/traps in those), a few promo codes, BGH x2, and the recent summer solstice gem chest which i swear i upped 14 royals to traps from that alone.
