Ice Minion Shards - Hognis Mines Quest seems Impossible

I'm supposed to get 50 Ice minion shards from Ice Minion defenders in the iron forest and have not seen even one for days on end. I'm getting very discouraged. I have 24/50 - It seems silly running around and around in this area and I don't even see one ice minion nonetheless the 26 I still need.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

That quest used to be easy because the entire northern part of the map was infested with them. Somewhere in the past couple of months they made the minions much less common but didn't change the quest. Now it is common to see four or five players camped out on the spawn point killing them as they come (BTW, the spawn point is right next to the bridge that leads to Eternal Watch)... It bites, but there are much worse quests in your future.

 

i recently played that quest with one toon and i can confirm that they have lowered the number of icy minions.... there are now all 4!!! icy minions in every map. You can only find them in north of the map like _Baragain_ said.

If you see people just standing/hanging around there ask invite in their team... they are waiting icy minions to respawn which is exactly 2min from their death. Happy hunting

 

I feel your pain, Eyreisheyes. The change only bottlenecks the Cold As Ice storyline.

There seem to be three distinct spawn points now, each spawning two or three Ice Minions. One is just west of the land peak / west of the icy falls - southwest on the map area circled that Firefly offered. The other spots are very close - one is on the frozen dock, and very shortly after another crew spawns at the east end of the same dock. These two points are at the easternmost point of the indicated area above.

On an even more annoying note - if the two spawn points at the frozen dock are active, the one at the waterfall will not be. And vice versa. No idea when the spawn point changes. Spawns are about every two minutes after the group kill.

 

If this quest seems impossible to you, then you might quit playing DSO once you begin parallel world quests
It seems tough because there's too less minions there. Takes a lot of time waiting for those minions to respawn. If there's someone hunting them already, group with them, so that both of you get drops.

 

And if you like this quest, you get to d o another very similar in Eternal .... think it might even be a part of this same story/quest line. Not to worry tho. there will be plenty of minions in Eternal
