    Hi everybody,

I started playing the game only a few days ago and decided to try a SW.

For me fireball is all what a mage is about and I don't like lightning spells. Is fireball (and the skills trees developed accordingly) viable option for endgame and some pvp'ing?

    cheers!

    Hi,

I mostly play on ranger, but I do pvp with my 25 lvl mage. Actually, I prefer lightning combined with fireball when the target isn't standing still. Speaking about lvl 45, both are very reasonable if you have good attack speed. I personally hate mages with fire (because I don't have resistance lol :D) but both preferences are good if youre strong enough :)

but what touches pve, id prefer lightning

im a level 45 SW just giving my imput that i use fireballs as main weapon and missel as secondary works real well on monsters since the missels regenerates your manna faster allowing you to use more fireballs.lighting is also good to use in mobs which stuns them with a lower killl ratio Have Fun

Now im speaking as a DK(but i have a friend that i(and he) believes have build the PERFECT mage)
For pve, always lightning. With lightning you make more dmg to mobs, have crowdcontrol at ahigher levels(mages can´t live without, unless it is a very tanky mage and those aint good for anything in groups), and you use less essenses.
For pvp, you have to decide yourself. But if you like my friend get a crazy spped above 2,00, then lightning should be the best choice because you will hit okey thansk to the speed. But if you have low speed in pvp, then use fireballs, you won´t be able to hit anyone with lightnings on low speed;)
The best combo for pvp in my oppinion, is crazy speed and lightnings(also the thing i hate to fight against).
But for pve, pls use lightnings and chainlightning! That helps our poor DK´s a lot! :D
And one thing more you didn´t mention, use singularity, don´t even consider upgrading guardian! Some do, and i can´t figure out why... it doesn´t help anything... but a hole can kill the whole bunch in 2 sec in groups;)

Fireball is only good for shooting moving targets. Lightning strike consumes 3 essence just like fireball but does way more damage. Lightning also does more damage per mana, so it is way more efficient in PvE. Also, ice bolt is great in PvE, especially with splash bonus, because blue monsters in singularity have speed 0 (for maximum lightning damage). When you run out of stuns, melee monsters can be rendered useless by making them blue with ice bolt and having a ranger paint them green on top of that (preferably with 40% rather than 30% slow), which leaves them at 10% of original speed.

As a level 45 SW myself the lightning skill is unmatched in regular play, especially in quests, per hit as it develops you can get more damage per hit than a fireball. I use the heck out of that skill. the area of effect is smaller but a good contact or hit can deal way more damage all at once and can strategically go between you in a safe spot like a wall where as a fireball is line of sight only. in PVP things change and the fireball is the way to go. Use the lightning for regular game play and the fireball in PVP.

    great feedback! thank u guys.

So I will respec now the pve tree and get the increased freeze instead of additional mana regen - 1st skill.

Now im lvl 9 and plan to do some pvp to gain a few ranks and then go pve again.

Ranks go up ok now - got my first 5 points and unlocked the 1st skill. although i have to practice as i lose majority (60%) of matches (3x3 mostly).

What rank is it reasonable to get in pvp without having to grind the game? Once I get there I switch to pve again to unlock the 2 fireball upgrades (increased dmg and burn) and I will go pvp again.

I see I will have to change the tree depending on if i play pve or pvp. So now I will focus on pvp as I saw u only have 5 free respec options and I dont know how expensive it is.

if u could please take a look at my post in the pvp section - also regarding the sw - i would appreciate it!

edit: btw, i solo the game in pve atm.

    cheers!

This is why I think Premium benefits Spellweavers the most as they constantly need to change their trees whereas the other classes are pretty stable in their builds for both PvP and PvE. It cost 100 Andermant for each reset, so it might be cost effective to just put down the $12.49 if you are going to be changing them frequently (and since you solo PvE the free revives are nice too).

I'd say Ardent Centurion is pretty easy to get without grinding PvP constantly.
