I'm returning to the game after a long time, at least 8 years. How is the game currently? I don't want to spend money, can I still have fun? Which build class will I be able to go further without investing money currently?

And, how healthy is the playerbase now? Back in time I use to see many players on the map

Hello, I just started play again after long break (2 years or more). In my opinion game is bit more complicated but still lot of fun. Mostly play solo, mage on heredur... Didn't spend any money so far, and can do blood now. I play like 2 hours every day, bit more on the weekend. Many friendly and helpful ppl there so lvling isnt hard. Just start play with char u like most and enjoy :)

I played dk in the past. But I'm afraid that by not investing money, I won't be able to get out of a limbo where I can't advance, because if I choose to be a tank, I won't deal damage, but if I choose to run damage, I won't survive close combat. A ranger, for example, can stay at a distance, I wouldn't have this chance with the dk.
Important note, I will play alone.

Go as fast or slow as you enjoy. Dont rush to the end-game. You only get to be a newbie once, so soak it in. Sample all the weapons and there is no way to mess anything up long term. Get lost, its ok to die. While there are great builds, I would encourage reading all the gear items, perks, and abilities, along with their stat threshold bonuses. No rush on doing it, but learning the perk system is crucial to learning how to experiment with the gear system throughout the game.

You can have fun without spending any money, although it depends on what you really mean.
Do you like to do things fast or slow?
Aside that each class is satisfying and fun, so try them all out and see the one that best suits your playstyle.
On Heredur there are more players, but it depends on the time you play because when you are online you may find few and instead when you are not online there could be many more.
