I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I have been noticing a huge difference in the amount and type of drops between characters.

My sw (played about 50 days - lvl 41)
My dk (played about 20 days - lvl 34)
My sm (played about 10 days - lvl 25)

When I am playing the SW, the gem drops are regular but very low, the extra ordinary are incredibly rare, but have gotten a couple of unique drops.

When I am playing the DK, the gem drops and extra-ordinary items are pretty consistent but unique items haven't fallen yet.

When I am playing the SM, the gem drops are few and far in between, extra ordinary items are also rare and no unique items.

The shabby chests and locked chests also follow the same guidelines.

DK gets the best, the SM is okay, and the SW is pretty lousy.

Not sure if it is supposed to be this way or if I just get lucky with one character versus the others.

Here's an example of the differences taken this morning after I originally wrote this post:

I don't know much about drop rates, but from what I have been told, they are supposed to be random. As such, if a larger sample size was taken with as many factors being the same between the experimental groups(class of character), the drop rates would be very similar in quantity and quality. Except for Andermant, since higher leveled characters will get less andermant in maps that are too low for their level.

As I have done a lot of farming and grinding to get xp to move up in quests, I have created spread sheets to determine the best places to farm or get xp. Just one of the silly things that I do.

I don't mind the random so much as it is simply part of the game, but the differences in characters doing the same places is just really off (at least for me).

I've been trying to compare apples to apples, so with my lower 2 level characters I have the spreadsheets to compare when my DK was the same lvl as my SM. The gem drop rate and extra ordinary gear drops are the most dramatic difference.

I'm going to work on getting my SM to the same lvl as the DK and work each one and continue to track the results.

Other people may not have this issue, but as the rates differ so much for me I thought that it made sense to bring it up and see if it universal or just random.

i am very sorry to inform you, but you are right.
there's something off about these droprates...

and this will not be "fixed" because it does not affect the overall game experience of all the drakensang community.

the problem is somewhere in their calculations. because every monster has a small little random chance to drop about anything these numbers are extremely small floating point digits, and depending on their hardware of the servers and their software for generating random numbers the droprates are very-very different for the four types of characters.

of course if you make a statistics with a very large number of subjects and for an extended period of time you will get similar results. but that's just how statistics work.

even more dramatic is the difference between the droprates of old players, who registered their accounts from 1.5 to 3 years ago, and the younger players whose accounts are not older than 1.5 years.

    i play as SW
i, personally, think that i registered in the dark-ages of the game, because my account is 2 years old and i rarely find gems, extraordinary and legendary items. as for the very-rare, so called "unique" items i found only 5 items that can drop from every monster in the game. otherwise i found the usual items : arachna's wand, heredur's orb, and some items from events : sargon (3/7 - cape, shoulders, crystal) , new moon (2/4 - wand, shoulders) and full moon (1/3 - book).

and now i farm almost everyday atlantis, but i still haven't found any piece of the lvl 40 atlantis set.

so yeah : there's something off about these droprates...

You have to look at drop rates for not just your toons but a wider selection of players. Your sample size is a bit too small...

I see a lot of people claiming to "know" that something is wrong in the game, when all they actually present are anecdotes. You are right, the sample size is way too small to be conclusive.

When I wrote this post I said that I couldn't say if it was the game or just lucky characters.

I still get the same results though day to day.

Now this may be different for others, I don't have the ability to know one way or the other.

I noticed the striking difference in my characters.

Currently I am working on getting my characters to the same levels to see if the difference in drop rates will even out or not.

I do not expect DSO to change anything and didn't ask for them to do so, I was simply pointing out a difference in what I have found between characters.

I suspect that if you took all three characters into the same map 100 times each, and recorded all that information, any differences would tend toward negligible. The spreadsheet is a good start toward an experiment. Now you just need a lot more data in it :D

I'm not promoting the bot or anything, but one good thing did come out of it. While it was common and popular, all the drops stats were aggregated and reported on a website. Interestingly enough, if you looked at any server, the drops for a particular area were roughly the same. And you don't get a much larger sample than 6000 bot users. :p

Time will tell. The one really nice part is learning which map where the cot's, gems and better gear drop the most. That has proved most useful for my purposes so far.

Thanks, I was unaware of that aspect of the bot situation. I guess some useful information came from it then. Some believe that a particular area "drops better" than another area. I've always believed it's just streaks, good and bad luck.

No, we don't know and don't want to find out neither.

The other problem is that it only ever kept three days worth of information so there is no way to look back in time. Also, now that we've had the big bot ban, I doubt the pool of data is as large as it used to be and the numbers not as "accurate" as they used to be.

i know that it is not allowed to post external links, but i don't think it is forbidden to discuss about this :)

anyway thanks for the heads-up. after i did my part of googleing i found the website that has the statistics. which means that there are bots still buzzing around the game.

too bad the data pool is not conclusive anymore and that hey keep only a 3 day record of the numbers.

all in all. i hate the "luck" factor always present when dealing with drop rates and all the secrecy of the "company" in regards with this matter.

this is a dead subject and will never have a reasonable conclusion...

Once upon a time I possessed a litany of various charts used to try and prove this point or that point. Few charts ever proved any suspicions conclusively, especially when in regards to such a dynamic game as DSO. "Stuff' often changes before you can even get your data on paper, rendering it useless. Not to say I don't admire those who track the various game anomalies or traits, they do help keep things honest. DSO is fond of bantering the word 'random' about when in fact, I personally believe, DSO is one one the more tightly controlled games I've ever played. That, however, and dependent on the motive of course, is not always a bad thing. And although this post may be a bit baffling to most, I understand it perfectly.:)

The developers don't want to reveal any secrets regarding the droprate, but I think it's based on luck, I've played for over 2 years and still no Enigma from Khalys .. Some players get it on their first 10 kills .. I think droprate in this game is a huge problem

Agreed. Played since almost the beginning of open beta. Killed Khalys over 700 times, probably approaching 800. I do not have Cloaked Wrath, yet many "new" players get it in a few kills. I think it is just very good luck. I have to think that, because the alternative is too sinister to contemplate.
