"In countries where Spanish, Portuguese, or French are spoken, and especially on the Iberian peninsula and in some parts of Latin America, a gesture called the Bras d'honneur involving raising a fist and slapping the biceps on the same arm as the fist used, sometimes called the Iberian slap or Iberian finger, is equivalent to the finger. Italy, Poland, and countries under the influence of East Slavic culture (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine) also see the Bras d'honneur as equivalent to the finger."

Given that the mods are pretty adamant about the use of masked obscenities, is the devs using blatant obscenities in their artwork, and having it posted here, acceptable?

At least these characters seem more like warriors than our resident female Spellweavers...

Probably true, but not really the point. I've always been told "lead by example". If that physical expression means what it looks like it means, it probably doesn't belong here.

I'm no prude, but if they give us rules to follow should they not then follow said rules themselves?

I don't think part of the job description for being a forum mod calls for graphic artistry, but maybe Support can help? I highly doubt anything will change.

I am wondering if they were aiming for "Rosie the Riveter"?. [IMG]

Where did I say the mods are responsible for the artwork??? Can you point to the part in my post where I said that? I said the mods enforce rules about obscenity and then they post a piece of art (designed by the devs, I suppose) with an obscene gesture in it! Please don't put words into my posts which aren't there.

So what exactly do you want the mods to do here?

Nice picture Super, it looks very similar :D.

That was my first thought, too, but unfortunately they missed the mark by quite a lot if that was the case. Rosie has sleeves and she's obviously rolling one of them. The Steam Mechanica has no such sleeves :)

What business of yours would that be? You don't appear to be a mod or admin, so stop spamming my thread, please.

I've passed the concern onto community management, its out of office hours just now, but they said they will discuss it tomorrow.

I just wanted to point out what it looks like to me, and that some players (Italians, Spaniards, et al.) might find it offensive. It was probably created by an artist that did not know what that pose means to some people. Personally, I like the artwork and I'm not offended by it (but I was born and raised in the U.S.).

    From Management:

"Our artist did not intend to insult anyone – the female Steam Mechanica art work is aimed to represent
strong and independent women and no obscene gesture.

Our artist was inspired by „Rosie the Riveter“ and “Tank Girl” – by no means he meant to offend anyone.
If players felt personally addressed then our artist is sending his apologies as he was not aware of the gesture’s meaning."

I was about 99.99% sure it was not intended as an insult. As long as no one is offended by it then I have no problem with it. No apology necessary from the artist, it was an honest "mistake" if that is even the correct word for it.

Funny (to me) side note: I wonder if anyone ever considered that the pose that "Rosie the Riveter" is making may be so similar to that rude Italian (et al.) gesture, the "Bras d'honneur", because the artist was trying to "flip the bird" to Mussolini and his fascist, ****-sympathizing regime in Italy at the time when the poster was created? Propaganda machines during WW2 tended to work in just this manner. I couldn't find any specific reference to this possibility online (besides the picture comparisons), but I think it a distinct possibility.

Anyway, you can close this thread or leave it open at your discretion.
