Hi. Kinda provoking title, huh? Here's the story (no names).

Ok so, I ran into a guy in a group who clearly played for 2 different characters at the same time in the same group.
It was obvious from how one of the characters was doing something while the other one stood still, and then the other way around. Also it was crystal clear from how he talked in the chat. For instance he mentioned he did not have certain necessary items, but said he had those on the second character who was present in the same group.

Then later on his friend who was the leader of that group and who invited both characters in question, told me that the guy was using 2 accounts at the same time and that he used that method to help the weaker one of his characters. I think you guys get the idea.

I got pretty annoyed with this and decided to report the player, my first report ever. Because as far as I know we are not allowed to have more than one account, let alone to use them simultaneously, for obvious reasons. I think it's called "pushing", but I'm not experienced at this area, so I'm not so sure.

Anyway, I kinda fumbled at first because I did not know there were precise rules of how to report players. By the way, the rules are so pointlessly detailed that the mere fact they are that way will immediately render most reports insufficient and irrelevant formally, despite that the reports reveal a true case of rule violation. The support will just ignore such reports.
You need to use unedited screenshots (=not even cropped), include all the names, exact time when the event in question took place, you need to befriend the person being reported etc.

So anyway, I fixed the mistakes in my report, you know, added non-edited screenshots of the chat ad such. But before I could fix that I actually received a reply from the support. And they told me my evidence was insufficient and that I needed to provide sufficient evidence so the support can check whether the player has broken any rules.

Now, let me be clear: even if I had a video of that incident, it wouldn't prove anything in a better way than providing screenshots. I had and still have no idea what more I can do than to provide quite clear hints that there was something wrong and fishy about those two characters. It's impossible for me as a mere player to completely prove this.

Later on I even provided screenshots of my "coversation" with one of the said player's friends who happened to be in one group with both characters at the moment. He defended him by telling me offensively that it's none of my business, and then the player in question started insulting me and mocked me.

I'm pretty sure the support is never going to investigate the case. They might even ban me instead for accusing someone without relevant evidence. But I have provided as much as I could. The only real evidence would be if the support simply checked if those two accounts were active at the same IP or something. And that's all I explicitly asked for - to have the guy checked.

I'm frustrated. The people who violate rules are never going to be punished in 99% cases, I believe.
It's because reporting anyone in a formally correct way is not very easy and providing sufficient evidence is pretty much impossible.

And a large portion of the community seems to be fine with rule breakers. For instance I have seen a video that said it depicted a player who was using a bot. The footage was pretty clear. Now guess what, about 50% of the video rating was "thumbs down", expressing that catching bot users was a bad thing, implying that it's fine if bot users (or generally speaking, rule violators) are free to run around Dracania.

Thanks for reading. Force be with you.

  2. Well, as you've said, proving someone is cheating is really difficult and support will not ban someone without unequivocal evidence. Situational evidence or supposition is not enough to get someone banned. Support has to be completely impartial. For that same reason, you have no reason to fear getting banned for accusing someone of breaking the rules.

The best you can do if you do if you really suspect cheating is document it as best as you can and ignore other people's opinions. The guidelines for reporting that you deem "pointlessly detailed" is the only way support is going to have a chance of proving an instance of cheating and making it stick. I'm sure that if you were accused of something by somebody that you would expect support to exercise the same diligence on your behalf.

Regarding Bot videos having 50% ratings, who do you suppose are leaving those "thumb downs"? Could it be that bots users like to watch bot videos and thumb down because they don't like people reporting their cheating?

If you have suspicions of a person cheating, you should indeed contact support, but don't expect support to inform you the results of their investigation, either with a bot or a dual logger.
