    Dear Heroes of Dracania,

We have been talking about the so-called PvE Balancing for the last few months, and here it is. With this release, we will not only add more possibilities to further improve your characters, we will also change the setup of various systems that interact with your classes to lift them to a state in which they're more flexible and long-term oriented.

It's been an amazing experience to receive so much valuable feedback from you and that helped us shaping this rework in a way that it's compatible with both our vision of the game and yours.

We really hope that you will enjoy Drakensang Online in its new form and continue to provide such a vital portion of the direction that this game will go to in the years to come.

At this point in time, there is not much to say other than THANK YOU!

Thus, we would like to give you an overview of what you can expect from this version of Drakensang Online. Feel free to read through the following, but make sure you jump into the game and experience this overhaul for yourself.

    Best regards,
    Your Drakensang Online Team

    General Changes & Bug Fixes

    Map Adjustments
    - We replaced the spawn platform in all urban areas (except for Lor'Tac) with a new object;
    - Moved the spawn platform in Hogni's Mine from the top to the bottom half of the plateau;
    - Moved the Travel Stone of Ellonidos closer to the spawn platform.
    Map Warning

You might still remember that we introduced a feature to the dungeons that made sure that group members are not allowed to enter maps anymore that have marked as "cleared". There were some dungeons that are marked as cleared as soon as groups have defeated 20% of all monsters on the map - and this was not well perceived by you. That's why we have decided to extend the system a bit - by adding a warning state. This means, these maps do not longer change into the "cleared" state, not allowing you to enter the dungeon anymore, they just give you a message now that many monsters on the map are defeated already - but you are still able to enter the dungeon if you want to.

Note that this change only applies to dungeons that had this 20% defeated monsters rule - dungeons that are marked as cleared when a specific monster was defeated, are still blocking you from entering the dungeon.
    Items

We have increased the stack size of all travel items to 9999.
The Black Knight that appears if you equip Dragan's Grim Signet Ring and your Health Points drop lower than 33%, spawns with an offset now so that he should not block your way anymore.

    Game Rebalancing Guide

    Changes in Character Balancing

We've applied some changes to the base balancing, more specifically in terms of damage, to enable all character classes to fit more into their designated roles.

Please note that not everything has changed, but only those parts that we believe will help all classes to come closer together.

In the table below, you can see how this affects the different classes and their respective base damage at each level from 1 to 55.

Character Sheet & Skill Tooltips - Additional information

We know that it is of significant interest for a lot of players to get much more details about the stats of their character and how all the various talents, pieces of equipment and buffs come together. Therefore, we added more information to the character sheet about how the base attributes are affected.

By hovering over the base attributes (e.g. Base Damage), you can easily see how absolute and relative modifiers come together to deliver the result you see in the main view of your character sheet.
    Please see the screenshot below.
    001.png
We've also added information to the skill tooltips to provide you with the exact damage range (absolute values).

Please note, this information is currently not available for all skills with indirect damage sources (such as an area of effect), but we will be adding this in the near future.
    Changes to summoned Minions

To provide all summoned minions with the same amount of usefulness and power, we've applied some changes to how they interact with their summoner (you) and how they react to your own progression.

Therefore, we've added the attributes of the summoner as a source to the power progression of the minions. This means that they will (partially) use the progression all monsters use while also getting additional boosts from your own attributes.

Please see the table below, which will give you more information about which values are affected and how much % they will receive from their summoner.

    Skill Update

With this release, we've changed various skills and skill talents for all four classes to restore the balance, in terms of fairness and usability. This includes not only the removal/replacement or rather realignment of specific talents but also detailed tweaks, e.g. in regard of cooldowns, maximum potential or even damage.

Therefore, we would like to give you an overview of all talents that have undergone a change. You can check the list below for more details, but we also encourage you to jump into the game and check it out by yourself!

    Wisdom Rework

    Talent Changes & Progression

As soon as this release hits the live servers, you can experience the complete revamp of the Wisdom system. The Wisdom tree, in general, was designed as a long-term motivation, which provides you a challenging but fun spiral up the ladder of optimized character progression.

But, in its current state, the system is flat and delivers a rather uniform experience, instead of a diversified one. With these constraints in mind, we started to rethink how Wisdom would be experienced at the beginning of your character, but more importantly in the late game, by replacing the old Wisdom talents with a much broader setup that helps you to maximize your playstyle even further.
Please note that we can't guarantee that Wisdom that has been collected above the actual max. level of 55 will be added to the new progression, as well. So, make sure to keep consumable Wisdom in your inventory as soon as you can make use of it!
In order to treat this system that way, we've added new levels and more levels to (nearly) all Wisdom talents.
    This means:
    • New characters can start to experience the system from level 10 onwards
    • From level 1-10, the system is locked
    • 21 of the 24 talents are locked at the beginning
      • The talents will be unlocked by increasing your character level
    • Wisdom max. level was increased from 55 to 200
      • Characters with a current Wisdom level of 55 will still be 55 after the update
As you can see, from this release on, Wisdom will be treated like a true progression system. For this reason, we've added a Wisdom progress bar next to the character XP bar in the bottom UI, which will always provide you with your current Wisdom level and the Wisdom that is needed for your next level-up.

And as you can see on the above screenshot, we've also increased the max. level from 55 to 200. to guarantee the feeling of progression for a longer time in the late game. This is an important step, as it will enable the wisdom tree to grow even further in the future.
To provide you with the full picture, we would like to share the math behind the new wisdom tree with you.
At Wisdom level 200, you will have 1665 Wisdom talent points available to increase your desired talents.

By replacing the old calculation, we are making it much more flexible for you and adding the possibility of improving more than just one talent with each Wisdom level. Please see the table below for the exact amount of talent points.

    Wisdom levelGranted points per level
    Level 09
    Level 1 - 996
    Level 100 - 1509
    Level 151 - 20012

To get a better feeling of how this change will affect the system in general, we've attached a list of all Wisdom categories and a list of all Wisdom talents and their respective unlock levels.

If you want to find out more about the respective talents, feel free to directly jump into the game (either on the test server or on live) and check it out by yourself!

    Wisdom Distribution Changes

To provide an equal experience and a gameplay-oriented foundation, we decided to remove any possibility to purchase Wisdom, in a direct or indirect way.
    This means:
    • Removed Ancient Wisdom from the global trader (shortcut "T")
    • Removed Ancient Wisdom from the Daily Deal
    • Increased the level requirement for finding Ancient Wisdom in Daily Challenges to 10
To enable you to gather Wisdom more efficiently, we've added a new rune that will increase the amount of Wisdom per drop, the Rune of the Wisdom Seeker:

    NameUsage
Lesser Rune of the Wisdom Seeker+ 1 to Ancient Wisdom drop stack size
Rune of the Wisdom Seeker+ 2 to Ancient Wisdom drop stack size
Mighty Rune of the Wisdom Seeker+ 3 to Ancient Wisdom drop stack size
Supreme Rune of the Wisdom Seeker+ 5 to Ancient Wisdom drop stack size
You can get this rune from the new "Sentinel's Chest" that will be available in any non-Parallel World Dungeon (Painful or above). You can find more information about this chest further below!

    Group Talents

This version will not only contain a ton of Wisdom changes, but also a similar system that is dedicated to the group aspects of Drakensang Online: Group Talents.

Unlocked at level 13, it will grant access to 9 new talents per class, which will improve the way the four character classes interact with each other. Please note that not all 9 talents are available at first, as some of them interact with skills that are not unlocked until later in the game.

The system provides useful, permanent group buffs and powerful triggered effects that can be used to tip the balance in favor of your group.

To qualify for group advantages, you must be within the range of your fellow group members (20 meters / ~ one screen length away).

    It works like this:
    g1.jpg

By gathering Group Experience Points, you can increase your Group level. Each group member will have their own Group level, which will provide them with Group talent points that can be used to increase class-specific effects to the group.

Please see the Group point progression below:

Group levelGranted group talent points per Group level
    Level 13
    Level 2 - 203
    Level 21 - 406
    Level 41 - 609
    Level 61 - 8012

Same as with Wisdom, we've prepared two tables to provide a better overview of the Group talent categories, talents and their unlock levels.

    CategoryExplanationGroup Talent Points
    per step
    Max. steps in this category
Group AuraThis category includes three different auras that can be activated and will provide permanent buffs to all members currently within range.375
Group EffectThe Group Effects are intertwined with three skills of each class and will help your group play.
These effects will add useful short-term buffs to your usual combat routine, such as small portions of healing, speed increases etc.

Group MomentumEach player can choose one Group Momentum (per build) which can activate every 90 seconds.
These effects are very powerful game changers that e.g. restore your group’s full resources and remove all debuffs or boost your damage outputs significantly.

    Group Widget Rework

We've added some new functions to the group widget (not active in PvP or before Level 13) and this is how it will look now:

    gg.png

1 - Group Experience Multiplier Tooltip
The Group Experience Multiplier will show you how much Group Experience you will gather by defeating enemies.
It will also provide you with a summary of all currently active Group Talents.

    2 - Player Level Tooltip

By hovering over the player level of any group member, you can see the Group Effects that this group member is contributing to the group and - additionally - which type of essences the player is using.
It’s also a visual indicator of whether a group member is in range or not (next to the Multiplier).
To keep the information as clear and fast as possible, only the names of the provided buffs will be shown here.
If you want to find out more about the respective effects, you can do so by hovering over the buff icons at the bottom bar (see more details below in the "UI"-section of this announcement)

    3 - Group Level

The Group Experience Bar will show you your current group experience status and (above) your very own group level.
By hovering over it, you can see the exact amount of group experience that you need to level up.

    UI Changes

By adding all these additional functionalities and attributes, we wanted to make sure that the information is also delivered in an accurate way.

That's why we reworked the way we visualize cooldowns, buffs/debuffs on your character and additional attributes of your beloved monsters.

    Stackable Buffs / Debuffs

In the past, all positive/negative effects were listed separately, which caused a huge cluster of information. With this release, we will combine similar effects into just one icon on your bottom bar, which will unveil the full information about every effect by hovering over the icon. This means that e.g. three different effects that applied a poison debuff to your character will not be shown next to each other, but only with one icon that indicates that there is more going on beneath the surface.

    It looks like this:
    gg2.png

    Buff / Debuff Overhaul

As you can see in the examples below, we've reworked the visual style of all existing buffs/debuffs, to make it easier to recognize the category and type of any effect.

Beginning with this release, all future effects will be either green, which means good, or red, which means bad.
As this simplification will enable us to provide needed information faster, there will be still unique effects that will resemble a certain debuff (e.g. a very specific boss debuff).

Please see the table below to get an overview of all effect types and their respective icons.

    Cooldown visualization

We've created a new option in your game settings which will let you activate the display of detailed cooldowns on your skills.

This will help with keeping track of all your cooldowns in a precise manner.

    Monster & Difficulty Balancing

Fighting monsters is the essence of our game. Making use of the various skills at hand and preparing for harder challenges with awesome equipment is the very core of Drakensang Online. To keep this core interesting and fair, but also challenging to you, we have applied various changes to our monster setup. Please see below for more details.

    New Monster specializations

Same as for your characters, we wanted to add more diversity to the monsters in Drakensang Online. That being said, we weren't interested in simply adding more health points or armor on top, but rather moving monsters that are already different in their behavior in even more diverse directions.

This led us to the decision that (amongst others) certain monsters will get the ability to block attacks, just as player characters do.

Therefore, we created 8 new monster types that all monsters we currently have in Drakensang Online can fit into.

See the table below for more details, but please note the actual values of e.g. "how much critical damage" etc. varies from monster to monster, so we will focus on how the new system works and which monster belongs to which type.

    Normal

Normal enemies with no unique characteristics.

    Normal Bosses

    Normal Monsters
    normal-monsters.png

    Damage Dealer

These enemies have the highest potential in terms of their average damage through normal hits and therefore also have a slightly improved chance to critically hit. Additionally, they have a slightly increased Attack Speed.

    Damage Dealer Bosses
    damage-bosses.png

    Damage Dealer Monsters
    damage-monster.png

    Critical Striker

As the name implies, the Critical Striker has the highest chance to critically hit and deals a lot more damage by doing so. To counter this, they will have a slightly decreased Attack Speed.

    Critical Striker Monsters
    critical-monster.png

    Fast Striker

These monsters are not significantly good at blocking or dealing heavy crits, but they have a much faster Attack Speed. This helps them in dealing much more damage in a shorter time frame.

    Blocker

As mentioned above, certain monster types are now able to block. The Blocker is the best at doing so, as he comes with the highest block rating.

    Tank

Tanks will come with a little bit extra on their resistances, block and armor values. To balance their improved values, we've decreased their Attack Speed a bit.

    Support

Support monsters will have a slightly decreased Attack Speed but are mainly responsible for buffing fellow monsters.

    Debuff Applier

These monsters deal less direct damage, but they're the best when it comes to putting negative effects on your character. Make sure to have the right resistances at hand!

    Monster base balancing changes

To give more meaning to the different attributes of your equipment and especially to any skill or piece of gear that is related to elemental resistances, we've changed how the defensive values of monsters work.

Please see the table below for more information:

    Value

    Change

    In Numbers

    Elemental Resistances

There are three different conditions that will apply to all monsters from now on.
    • High resistance against a certain element
    • Less resistance against a certain element
    • Normal resistances (like before)

    High:
    • Normal Value x 2
    Less:
    • Normal Value / 2
    Normal:
    • No change

    Armor Value

We've slightly increased the basic armor value of all monsters.
The change listed to the right does not include bonuses that will be true for certain monster types!

Roughly + 20% to basic armor value

    Health Points

We've both increased and decreased health points for all existing monsters.

As these changes depend on their new types, ranks and general
behavior, it's not possible to give a "from>to" range for this one.

    Elemental Resistances and their dependencies

To make character attacks that use any type of element more useful, we will also integrate a "Rock-Paper-Scissors" logic to the elemental resistances of all monsters.

With this change, you will be able to make use of your elemental skills to deal a lot more damage to monsters of a certain elemental type, as each element is weak against attacks of a different element.

On the other hand, they will also have better resistance against a different element.

Please see the picture below to get a better understanding of how the different elements interact with each other:

You can easily identify the elemental type of a monster by checking the icons below their health bar.

    e2.png

As the picture above shows, you will get all the information that is needed to adapt to these circumstances.

We will add more possibilities to deal elemental damage for all classes in the near future.

    Boss / World Boss Adjustments

In fact, most of our bosses already keep up with our world bosses, in terms of their skillsets and overall presentation.

In order to streamline this, we've renamed both ranks to bosses, which means, that they will also be balanced using the same formulas in the future.

As this was already true for the Parallel World incarnations of the bosses, it will be applied to all bosses in the general regions, as well.

Other changes for bosses: Bosses can now be stunned. After being stunned the boss will be immune to stunning effects for a few seconds
    Changed Random Enchantments

We've applied changes to two random enchantments that you can find on monsters on higher difficulties.

    Monster AbilityChange
r1.pngRanged monsters (like the Nefertari Priests or Archers) will not get the teleport ability anymore.
r2.pngRanged monsters now have the possibility to get the triple hit ability
If you get hit by an enemy with the triple hit ability, it will deal 2 additional hits with each additional attack causing 33% damage based on the monster’s base damage as physical damage.

Specific adjustments only for Additional Dungeon Difficulties

In the recent past, we've introduced additional dungeon difficulties to the non-Parallel World dungeons. With this release, we've also further improved how this system works. If you want to know what has changed, feel free to read the lines below!

    New monster rank - Sentinel

After defeating all enemies in a dungeon (from Painful onwards), a powerful map leader will spawn, which drops additional loot in the end. We will introduce a new rank specifically for these monsters, the so-called Sentinels, to make the challenge more interesting.

Sentinels will have their very own random enchantments, which will put more pressure on you and your group, but - if you're able to defeat a Sentinel - will reward you with a ton of loot, including completely new stuff!

    i1.png

    Sentinel's Chest

The new Sentinel's Chest will provide additional loot, on top of the rewards the Sentinel itself will drop on its own.
For example, it will be one of the (very few) sources to get the new Rune of the Wisdom Seeker, which we explained above!

As mentioned above, just go out, kill some Sentinels and claim your rewards! The chest will appear close to the Teleport Stone that also spawn after the Sentinel has been defeated, so make sure to check it out before exiting the map!

    i2.jpg

Adjusted monster distribution & randomized Sentinel spawn

In the past, the monster distribution in the normal and all additional difficulties was the same. With this release, we've updated all spawn clusters in any non-Parallel World dungeon (from Painful onwards).

This also includes the spawn area of the Sentinels (formerly known as "Mighty Opponent"), which will be randomized to keep the experience a bit more diverse.
