removing myself from a defunct group

    two days ago I was asked to join another player in a 'group' where he promptly died, and left me attached to the group designation on the right hand side of my screen. since then i have booted up more than once, and it doesnt go away. He's not been seen since. How do i remove myself from a group, any group, at any time? I can find no directions anywhere.
