I'm an old-time player, recently came back from approximately 1.5-2 years break (I do not recall the exact date but it's a while back) after the infamous r89 patch that heavily nerfed dragonknight class. Many of my DK friends and I quit after that patch to try out other games. Now it is summer time again and I decided to give this game another shot while waiting for EDIT in July.

Long story short, I got to level 45 experience as soon as I returned to the game and with full legendary gear with shield from the full moon event. I am level 40 in Fame (Flag Bearer), achieved before I went on my hiatus. Now, with 8k hp and 4k armor and 900-1000 resist, I die literally in 2 precision shots to rangers and 3 fireballs from mages if I don't block.

Being a melee class, it is rather difficult to attack ranged classes without being hit first. It is difficult to attack (smash) a running player without stunning them first, my options are limited to wild swing skill (requires 60rage/difficult to build up) which is unreliable at the best.

To make the matters worse, when I stun them, they each have 2 stun-removal abilities followed by 4 second immunity to stun (2x4=8s). My cd on stuns (charge and throw are 12s with headnut at 10s), while mage's teleport is only 10s and ranger's jump at 12s and they remove stuns! Mages also have nova which debuffs and stuns me as counter. This gives me approximately 2-4 seconds to land my third stun before their jump/teleport is off cd again. My third stun (headnut) is next to impossible to land vs. a good mage/ranger player because it requires me to be in melee range; and as soon as it is landed, it gets removed by their level 35 fame skill. To make things even worse, ranged classes move at the same if not faster speed than me (I have +20% move speed specced in the pvp tree), which means it is very difficult to catch them to attack.

Assuming I somehow catch the ranged class, even in melee range (ie. they facetank me), I will still lose if they debuff my armor remove headnut (and they do 99% of the time). Their precision shot+deadly blow or fireballs can be spammed with extremely high burst damage while I must first build up rage to smash them (usually I'm dead after my first smash lands before my second smash hits).

I considered getting more hp and armor, but it is not practical without giving up most of my offensive damage and crit.

Any advice on pvping as knight? Or is knight in general as a class reduced to full tank mode with 0 damage sitting on the flag or flag running with more deaths than kills while rangers/mages rake up the honor points from kill farming? I notice 1v1, 3v3 and 6v6 are quite empty, so I'm forced to play 5v5.

May be you have used 2-handers before you leave. I don't think anybody uses 2-handers in PvP anymore.
    Try switching to a shield.

Quite contrary ... lot of players are now using 2H in PVP.
1.5-2 years ago no one was using 2H even for PVE.

    To the OP:
I don't know why are you wasting your time "giving this game another shot" ... while you are waiting for another game.
It is clear that this game is not for you.

We need more information about your gear and gameplay style. First question that jumps to mind is what kind of shield are you using? (Missed that it was the wolf shield)

My stats are comparable to yours (8.3k hp, 3.6 armor), but i rarely die often unless going up against a supergroup and i usually get a decent number of kills.

Btw, trak is right. 2H dks are a lot more common in pvp now. Probably because it is easier to get a decent 2H than a decent 2-2 or 3-1 shield.

Edit: The wolf shield is very good, not as good as a 2-2 or 3-1 or 2-1 (I use a 2-1 with armor as the 4th line) but still very good. However, if you're using it you probably need slightly more hp than 8k to compensate for the lack of reduce.

Well, I would say you need more HP (atleast 9k) and some more resistance. Your armour seems fine to me, so the problem shouldn't come from there (although you could always use more). The way you have written your post makes it look like rangers and mages are completely uncatchable and warriors are useless in PvP, which is definitely not true. Nowadays, a good warrior can easily turn PvP games around, but the hard part is to get your stats up to par. Since you just came back, I guess you don't really have much glyphs, which make a huge difference if you have enough of them. My advice would be to take a little break off PvP and go farm M2 Knights non stop, otherwise don't expect to be able to beat people who have done so for the last year/many months.

Thanks to all those who replied (except trakilaki who provided no useful info). I am currently using the full moon shield and all my items are level 45. I did not upgrade any of them beyond level 45. I will take Heaven's advice to farm M2 and upgrade gears to higher level. I will also try and find a better shield but it is tough. Then, hopefully, the outcome will be significantly better in pvp. I'm truly curious about how veteran pvp dk fight ranged classes if you can not stun them, since you can not attack and run at the same time. Being melee, it would mean your target is either very close to you (ie. running around you) or stationary, or you are so overpowered as a cash player that you can one or two shot your opponent with mighty wild swing.

To trakilaki, you might be right, this is probably not the game for me. But it never hurts to come back and see the new expansions and have a little fun (however short it might be). You never know what you like until you try it out. :) But please, post only if you have something constructive, otherwise, you can go post on other threads to up your forum status/post counts.

Oh yeah. Just bumping your legendary gear to 46 would pay dividends, since for a lot of items the first glyph upgrade is the biggest one. Shield is a good one to bump up, my shield is at level 47 now, and most of my stuff is at 46~48 except my helmet and my gloom cloak

Trakilaki always provides useful info. In your case you don't need it ... because those posts from the players are longer than your time playing this game. From the very start you are asking for help that you don't need ... it is like asking a manual for a TV that you don't even intend to buy.
Besides ... you question is answered 1M times ... search the forums.

thx again nova, I will bump up my shield first.

To trakilaki, why do you persist when it is obvious you're unwelcomed? Obviously, you never played any games/ demos to try out the game and have some fun (based on your analogy of tv sale and tv manual). I like to first try out a game and if I'm having fun, I will continue to play it, otherwise, I will not. My specific questions are not answered on the forum. You would know if you tried searching up the stun/stun-break related issues for new/returning pvp dk, specifically in pvp before being all self-righteous and accusing me. I only gave a brief history of my character to explain why I am level 40 fame and seeking advices as an returning player. Instead of helping, you focus on the insignificant part of my original posting . The reason why I mention I am lvl 40 fame is so that there is no disadvantage in the +/-1% base hp and damage when in pvp from the levels.

Sadly, people like you trakilaki, are the reason why many English speaking players who would visit the forums but refrain from posting. You are truly arrogant if referring to yourself in third person is any indication.

R89. We have not forgotten. Welcome back.

Smeagol and Gollum also speak about themself(ves) in third person. I think he falls into a volcano at the end and destroys the One Ring. So he does serve a purpose. Thanks Traki.
