I've been playing this game for ages, and there have been some useful tools over time, but many of them are very focused and only cover a very narrow ability (DPS, stats based on gear/gems, etc.) I'm more interested in making something that covers as many metrics as possible.

I've also been developing for Android for a side hobby and it just occurred to me when I was putting together some Excel equations for the 1H DK thread that I could finally combine my two hobbies.

So, I pose it to you, my fellow insane forum goers:
If I make such an app and publish it to Google Play, would there be interest? Also, what sort of calculators would you be interested in? My initial release would cover DPS, Effective HP, and bonus calculators (i.e. how much damage would you get by adding 10 damage when you have a specific weapon damage, % damage, etc).

Also, to pacify the mods, before I publicize the release on the forums, I'll submit a copy of the .apk to support for the developers to ensure that I'm not stealing passwords or anything stupid like that.

    part. :p

Well of course I'm interested, even a little bit excited to be honest.

In a personal note, I have the most trouble figuring out when is it okay to stop looking for damage lines and start adding CHR instead to improve my overall DPS. Bonus calculators would be awesome to try to pick an optimal balance between resistance/armor values without making my damage suffer as a SW, and not being a total paper dragon.

Since I'm not versed in the use of any of the tools that are running around nowadays, I'd love to start using your app when it's ready and of course you can expect proper feedback (I apologize in advance if they turn out to be parchments :p).

    Can't wait! :D

    That's an amazing idea sir,
Now about what the app should/could do and calculate.

1)I should be able to replicate my equipment, gems, set bonuses, wisdom tree bonuses into my stats in the app.
2)Its should have a class and role selection thing so we can measure accordingly as to whether we are close to optimal(this could be done by making some preset baseline values such as having a DK+ Tank having presets of high block+reductions with effective hps of 80-90k and so on.)
3)It could also have the ideal enchantment for particular gear such as rings with chr and cd for mages

This is all i have in mind in addition to what you quoted

"My initial release would cover DPS, Effective HP, and bonus calculators (i.e. how much damage would you get by adding 10 damage when you have a specific weapon damage, % damage, etc)."

And i wont mind ads in the app so you get atleast something out of the deal :p

Sorry I wasn't specific. What I was thinking was that you could create something that could be used like the 2 part CV system you've discussed in other threads. A way that we could plug in the numbers and tweak it depending on the type of build we are looking for.

Using your spreadsheet as an example, it provides a great base to work on for tank builds (effective HP) and how armor, hp and resist work together. If you could manage to blend a way to see the full offensive dps with multipliers and still allow us to make sure we can see the effective HP (elemental and regular) that would be darn near perfect in my opinion.

Knowing how far to push dmg/crit/speed before we upset the defense would make creating any character so much easier. That would sort of be the CV system we should have gotten from DSO.

I am a little rusty in my programming, so I'll start with the basic calculators where you plug in stats from the character page and then you get numbers out, but ideally, in time, I'll include functionality like the once popular Drakensang Optimizer.

Ahoy there!, I'm just wondering if this information would be useful at some point for your calculator?, like "what if I upgrade this item to level XX?, what would be the actual improvement in my toon's stats?", some sort like that, of course I know very little about developing apps, but still hits me as a bit complicated in my little knowledge, so I was just wondering.

There was a post that showed the % per upgrade level. There is a issue though. I have had a ring with damage 5 5 5 4 and upgraded it was at 50... 33 31 27 24. So it would not be 100% accurate... but... You could type the figures in your self... I know I know what a pain...

    Suggestion for app.

    Enter items...

You can have multiple helms and equip them ect.

Have a total upgrade % to Armor HP...

One of the things I have found most frustrating with the optimizer is that I have to change an entire item and update the changes. In order to compare one setup with another, I take screen shots and then look at all that changes. It would be nice if there was a way to do a side-by-side comparison. What would be even nicer is if I could just add a change such as adding a gem or upgrading an item to see what happens.

Just plinking the pennies into the pot...

I'd love to add it in, but like Meganuker started to point out, because of rounding errors, it would be tough to accurately predict over time. This would be made worse the more you upgrade an item because the errors would compound with each level up. Until they list an item's stats out at least one decimal point (preferably two) there are not enough significant figures to be even remotely accurate.
That all goes back to what I was saying... I'm rusty (I took a break from my coding hobby for about 2 years due to personal issues) and was never particularly good with databases to begin with, but I'll look into it further down the road...
but now for your first teaser...

So far, I've only coded the launcher and the layout for the home page interface... I'll likely do most of my work on the weekends because I'll have more time. It will take me at least a couple weeks before I even have the initial release ready for testing.

Please remember, I'm a player first and I'm taking time out of my farming to make this app. There will be times that it goes faster or slower depending on events and 4 day weekends off from work.

I have to admit I forgot about that particular issue when I suggested using that info in the app.

Also, I do agree that the errors would be worse with each level up, so following what MegaNuker stated, I think for now the less flawed way to do it would be test the upgrade values individually in-game and then input them into the app to reduce the margin of errors.

@_Baragain_ the hype is real! :)

I would love to be able to compare 2 items with same gems. E.g. Wands with following enchants:

    1. +51 damage +55 damage +48% increased weapon damage
    2. +74% increased weapon damage + 48 damage

Damage difference with the gems inserted and upgraded to different levels. :D

Ok folks... here comes an update.

I'm trying to put the finishing touches on the home page UI and I want the colors to look good. I'll post a couple of screen shots tomorrow and I'll be looking for some input from some of you more ascetically gifted individuals. If I was just making this for me, it would probably just be black and white with the only thing that I'd care about being functionality, but I'm not the only one who will be using this and you all are the ones that have to put up with what ever I end up making.

On a side note, I designing the home screen with four categories in mind: Offence Calculators (based on inputted character stats), Defense Calculators (based on inputted character stats), Item Calculators (based on inputted item stats and gems), and Full Character calculations (based on inputted item, gems, knowledge, etc). What I'm looking for is someone who is graphically inclined and might be able to make icons for these categories. I have four place holders, but I wouldn't mind replacing them with something better looking.

Those four categories will all be present in the initial release, but with a "coming soon" label for the second two while I try to figure those out.

Calculation of effective amount of mana/concentration would be really nice( if its possible). I know someone who would love a feature like that.

I think I'll put that in the offensive calculator section eventually.

PS: With all the stuff you all are interested in, I'll be developing for the next year at this rate. :p

    EDIT:

OK, so with the advice of a somewhat more color minded individual on the shade of the background, namely my wife... who is also a DSO gamer (how'd I get to be so lucky :p), this is what I have right now.
As I said yesterday, I'm looking for advice regarding color. Feel free to take the above screenshot and play with it in Paint, GIMP, Photoshop... pick your poison. I'm fond of the dark gray title bar, but feel free to adjust the red background, the button colors, or even the icons on the buttons. I'm looking or something pleasing. If no one has any usable input, I'll just go with this as is.

And, as said before, if any of you are so inclined, I wouldn't turn down a nice set of icons for the buttons to replace what I have there. Try to make the image square (512x512, 640x640, that sort of thing but not much smaller because I can scale images), and if you can include an alpha channel (or at least white space that I can convert to an alpha channel) around what you design, it would be appreciated.
