Updates require downloading the entire game?

Hello, first forum post here so I hope you don't shrug it off as just some newbie because I really do enjoy this game a lot.

But after a week or so of playing with the last patch, this new one came out and required me to redownload the entire client again. Now sure, 1 gig is tiny, not a problem but I have a data cap due to where I live and the internet connection I currently have.

So what I am asking here is, is this normal? Do I have to redownload the entire client every time a new patch/update comes out? If so, this will be a pretty big problem for me as I don't have a lot of data to spare on constant redownloading of the entire game.

You will have to download the new client every time you get notification for it.
BUT ... the client itself is something like 20-30 MB big. Just make sure you are not deleting the files in the TEMP/DSOClient folder and the game will only download the new files. I know sometimes the client says you have to download more than 1GB of data ... but the client is stupid ... to avoid this play via browser the game will download the new files only when you are entering a new place that needs new files to be downloaded.
So ... you can play via browser when you are having limited internet traffic and play via client and download all the files when you can afford downloading all the contents.

    Thank you for the reply.

Yeah, what I meant was the full game needed to be downloaded again, not just the client. I'm not entirely sure what happened on my side because I didn't delete any files in Temp/DSOClient. I just opened up the game through the client like normal, saw the update and then it downloaded 1 gig of game content again. Felt like I was wasting data since I know I already had most of this content downloaded.

EDIT: I also just took a look at my Temp/DSOClient folder. It's 2.07 gigs big. Is it meant to be that large?

Yes it is ... mine is almost 5GB large.

Just make sure you or any software on your PC is not deleting the files there.

No. On a fresh download it would be a around 1.20 GB.
On a new update/hotfix, it downloads new versions of files/batches leaving you with the old ones that are unused by the new update.
That's a 3.3 GB waste of disk space.

^ That is waste of forum space.
Some people are playing all classes instead of just a pauldrons crafting tank. :D
When you play them all you also need all the files ... also with all those files (new and old) i can play the game without issues ... unlike some folks who were unable to play the game whether because of the compendium or other reason

QuinnZai don't listen to him ... just make sure you never delete the files and download the new ones if available.

Where the heck did that came from?! You're drunk! And I don't tank, I'm not playing 1h&Sh... always 2H... And, did you see my new damage torso :p?
To save space I update like this:
    - Open the DSOClient folder so that the new downloaded files are listed from the setttings.xtml file down
    - Run client to update
    - Manually delete the old required and optional bundles files that now have new versions downloaded.
    Rocket Science?!

Don't delete anything form DSOclient folder ... you can clean it only if you have issues with the game (like corrupt files ... etc).
Actually you should make backup of that folder if you have limited internet traffic.
