What does CV stand for?

When I'm changing armor and weapons and such, what difference does the CV have in comparison to lesser and greater equipment? Should I focus on gear with higher CV and why?

 

BP's attempt to calculate "combat value" of an item. The scholars on the forum will have you believe it's less than worthless; but early on, it might be a decent quick decision-making tool for you. As you rise to higher levels and start to fine-tune your character and strategy, you may find that the CV undervalues certain qualities of a piece of equipment from your perspective, so you'll probably begin to ignore it fairly soon. Many have argued that at a minimum, CV needs to be calculated separately for Offensive and Defensive capabilities of an item.

Let's say that it is just an "informative" tool.
It has not any practical signification. So, it is based on ability values of your equipment, gems, wisdom, skills, talents and honor.

Anyhow, as our @dkarl wrote, it is really good to let you know how you are. Anyhow, having a low CV does not mean that you will lose any match in PvP, for example.

So, for now, it has no practical influence in-game.

CV is a value that creates some doubts in communities - how is calculated? Should be different from class to class? So many questions!

CV is a great idea that was indescribably poorly implemented. Do a forum search for threads about CV and you will quickly see just how bad it is. Some amazing items have awful CVs, and likewise, some items with amazing CVs are totally worthless. The system could have been better designed by a 9th grade math student. I fancy myself a little smarter than your average 9th grader when it comes to math and designed and laid out a proper system in response to the release that brought us the CV, and it was, of course, ignored. My system would allow two players to compare their offensive capabilities or defensive capabilities in a meaningful way, and the compare loot tool would have been very useful, but alas, we are cursed with developers who can't recognize a good idea when it is dropped into their lap, fully formed, with everything done except the coding.
