Sorry guys, not trying to be a #ick, but I really appreciate that Gnob is challenging to kill. Like many new bosses in game (think back to when Destructor was introduced) when they first appear everyone freaks out until solid tactics permeate the community and everyone knows how to do it. Gnob IS soloable and I have done it 4 times today but, this is a tactic specifically for grps.

With that said; here is what is working well as group tactics.

    1. Gnob is not hard to kill on his own and would be easy to do with any moderate or even weak grp. What makes him difficult is the dragonspawn that add during the fight. They explode and swarm and generally prevent the grp from being able to focus fire.

    2. The more members in the Group the more adds there are.

    3. Split the grp in half. Since the dragon spawn do not require colored ess to damage, have half the grp equip whatever red, purp, blue ess and keep the adds at bay. They are easy to kill with ess.

    4. The other half of the grp focuses on gnob using stuns and dodging his rock throw.

    5. Collect loot and reset.

Hope this helps lower peeps blood pressure that are having probs. With this tactic he has been fairly easy to handle with a few deaths per grp kill being the norm, mostly caused by exploding dragonspawn.

    -----UPDATE------

I got in a good grp with 2 DK's. It was ridiculously easy using the stunlock as Baragain has mentioned in the feedback thread and below. The coolest part was that if he's kept stunlocked, there are no dragon's!!! If you can get a grp to work together well this fight is stupid simple.

Interesting tactic with the spawn. Didn't know that, but as said elsewhere, the fight is so short with a DK/SW team that uses stuns well and armor breaks well timed that you don't even have to fight the dragonspawn as they never spawn. :-D

BigPapa I have an challenge for you.
Remember this? Try using it on Fake Gnob.
The goal is to kill Gnob without spending a single colorful essence. :D
You can use pots and buffs as much as you like.

LOL, hunting trap with damage would also work in theory. :p

Haha, you went deep for that one:p Trak I took that so seriously that I bought the Premium shoulders that reduce cooldown time of Hunting trap by 60% and then tested them against some bosses. I can have two hunting traps down at the same time!!!! I may give it a shot on Gnob :) I don't video but I think you know im honest in my efforts and information.

Great points. For me personally, the first encounter was brutal and it wasn't until the third attempt that things smoothed out. For two Rangers, this was no big deal after we learned the dance moves. While we don't have all the stun-er-iffic abilities of DKs or SWs, we used a technique that had us facing each other in deadly blow range on Gnob throwing out our thorns. Smooth. No deaths. All good.

I also use a ranger build and find the torn skill quite useful against fake Gnob. Inevitably I end up having to use poison traps to slow down the spawns so that I can use the hawk stun. That will stop fake Gnob temporarily. The boss is not too difficult, it's just time consuming just like everything else in this event.

Second on that notion. It's nice for the DK to do all the tanking/stuns at Gnob while the SW stagger the spells to prevent the summoning of the dragonspawns. If done correctly, zero death with fast kill.

Not just theory ... practice too. The hunting trap has a damage of a precision shot ... I am using it all the time with different events.

Does Gnob even set off the trap since he is stationary? I was thinking through how to accomplish your challenge?

He does. (Probably have to run pretty close to set it right under him? I don't really play my Ranger enough to know the details.) A guy in our guild already did it because he got only 1 pile of 50x colourful ess in one run. Poor guy. xD

Gnob is not stationary. He has a long range ... you can make him move. However ... you don't need to ... you can set the traps near or pretty close to him. He will activate them ... if he doesn't then some of the dragonspawns will.

That's a lot of key mashing but kudos to you. If you watch me play it, I scramble to a few feet away and set out my Ent Tree to keep the spawns busy for a bit. Then I roll on in with a bird stun and start bashing on him till my health is extremely low, jump over him and kite him with mark and pricision until my Ent Tree is ready to release again. I may be messy but I'm more of a stand and hold ground Ranger so the kiting is very tight circles until he starts launching his stuns. If I'm with my Twinzeee, we alternate birds and use our thorns in opposing directions. If I'm lucky enough to be with a DK or SW, the entire thing is yawn easy.

Oh, regarding a strange observation. We all like to clear the mobs before running into fake gnob but has anyone else noticed that once in a while that creepy little gnob's first spawn is a colored ess dragan spawn? I have seen this a few times and if you are unlucky enough to have socketed your colored ess, you are in for a world of pain. I try to make sure that colored ess dragan spawn is nowhere in that room before committing to rainbow ess. I have seen a few bewildered moments due to this sneakly little gnob trick.

I'd like to someday play with Traki. Honest. I think it would be fun to see each other's play styles. I've read a lot of what he has written over the years and it would be something I would enjoy if he was ever interested.

AHHHHHHH, your observation spawned an epiphany. I'm frustrated cause I can't play right now to test this thought. I post it so maybe someone on will be interested enough they can test it if they are up for it.

Teg's you and I definitely have to check this. TRAK, burn one of those 35 hard pearls I know you have in inventory:D

OK the first time I ran the little bugger it was chaos. Birds everywhere and I killed a butt load of them. When I finished the job after some painful deaths I checked my inventory and had 600 ess I had picked up from the ground during the fight of about 4 minutes. At least I'm pretty sure thats where they came from. It was a separate stack and there's an unusual bug with the colored ess that they don't get added to the equipped colored ess like other types do. I didn't think much about it cause it was the first fight and had no expectation or comparison. Anyway here's my thought.

I think Gnob summons colored dragonspawn with other types, and if he does it would be a fab way to stock up on colored ess. Screw killing him, let him spawn all the birds he wants, ill sit back with blue ess and drop his spawns like doves in a corn field, dodge his rocks or find a blocker in the room and collect some of the 10,000 colored ess that will be needed to complete challenge 3 and 4.

Fingers crossed this is a possibility and in any case will update tomorrow if no one else tries it.

Sure ... but we are on different servers. :D

There is a troll next to Gnob (on the left side) ...
Behind that troll there is dragonspawn or colorful egg (on difficult mode it is better to have dragonspawn instead of colorful egg ... colorful egg = no colorful essences). I/we usually summon that pest to the entrance before engaging Gnob.

I did ... that first screenshot is newer. :p
