I've never really understood the economics of stuff like this or the decisions to do it. You guys are saying you would work for 3 days or 6 days or whatever it takes for you in game to get 12k anderment(or whatever amount) to buy premium? But you won't pay $12. So you are saying you would work 3-6 days for $12. Wouldn't you be better off stocking shelves at the pet store for an hour making minumum wage and then buying premium? I fact if you worked at the pet store all day, you could buy a fist full of nice gems and get premium.

I'm not of course advocating people spend their rent money on a game, but the amount of time you are suggesting as a trade off to get premium is kinda nuts when compared to the amount of time it takes to earn the actual amount for equiv service.

I get the pride part of doing it for free, but you do realize your earning pennies per hour on your time.

Well a game needs money, if we want this game to thrive then maybe we shld also consider spending some real bucks on it. However not the ridiculous amnts on the "sell advantages" part. If they took a monthly premium and in return get reduced ander prices of different items across the board by atleast half or more then maybe it would be more worth it. In my total game career I have been premium and non premium for very long times. The only real advantage premium gives is at early stage game, the cubes and maybe the inventory for those who dont buy inventory with anderments. Currently I am doing the event being a non premium player, I usually farm up enuf anders to make a profit before every other time i die. However seeing the state of the game, and since the game cant make itself better anytime soon before they admit they are going down the wrong road, i agree to your idea, atleast it shld increase the amnt of players by a lot.

From the point of view of a player , this idea would be awesome. But guys, though for us this is a game, for BP this is buisiness. By allowing "free" premium subscriptions , it will reduce a lot the real premium subscriptions. We cant forget that BP needs to keep machines working for us, BP pays designers (and good ones), programmers and services to keep this game up and running. BP needs Money! So , the idea is awesome but its just a dream!

Please note people are proud. Also note that some are children too young to work but playing the game is their form of work. This makes since for them. now for people that are proud. Pride cometh before destruction...

Think also about someone who does not want to spend money on this game, but is a farmaholic. What if they wanted one of the premium items from the merchant, but they don't want to buy premium for cash. They spend some of their well farmed ander, buy their item from the shop, and then enjoy their remaining premium.

I'm not saying that I would, but it would be nice for the option to exist.

Really, the issue would be whether BP valued the input/reactions of the F2P players compared to receiving $$ in the bank for those willing to pay for whatever item is in question. While *I* value that input, it doesn't mean BP does.

Well I am sure Team DSO might have a larger input on this matter over the parent company BP but I think you ment them.

A few ideas to think about.
F2P games make more money than P2P only games.
The F2P player % is higher than the paying members of a F2P game.
If the % goes up on the paying members it mostly done via F2P quitting the game. If this is done then the game devs look into ways to keep the F2P from quitting. Ultimately they want more F2P to make a purchase so they will normally entice them with stuff. This purchasing premium with anderment if done correctly could provide DSO with more paying members. Just depends on how hard it is for the member to farm the anderment.

Old economics. recent stats dont show much sustainability to this idea. specially not in a game like dso where f2p players dont want to pay atall to show pride. also f2p payment really flourishes when the "sell advantages" part threshold is low, not at the level for dso. plus a game has to be much above par excellence to even have a short term viable profit from the f2p economics.

I can definitely see the negatives now, and how the option could be abused.
I do like the idea that a *3 day premium* quest is added to *Curse of Dragan* event.
As a Premium player I can appreciate the benefits this would be for them. On the positive side.. this could also be a way to encourage non-premium players to reconsider and purchase one of the Prem packages currently listed.
Thank you all, I can appreciate why it wouldn't work if the option was easily acquired.. and having said that..
I shall tuck this softie attitude into the nap-sack, mount my trusted steed *Dimples* ... and ..ride off somewhere deep in the jungle...:)

Pay to play mmo games are down 8% as of September 2015. Report compiled October 22nd 2015.

The trend for pay to play mmo has been in the range of 2 to 10% down everytime I read the report. The free to play mmo has not gone down once.

well our report source must vary then :D but what i found is most games f2p and p2p are shifting to pure f2p with paid expansions. Also that f2p games with below threshold "sell advantages" modelling and which have near to 0 defects are the only f2p ones doing very well in the market because most players there buy very small transactions with real money which is not the case with dso. On the other hand p2p games might not have as large a customer base but is sustainable over the years and more players and developers are satisfied on that side of the spectrum.

Plus leaving reports aside, from my personal point of view, when you pay a reasonable amount for something its easier to develop games without having to have the game evolve its whole gameplay around how to sell advantages. the recent introduction of the stones in the amulet to reduce cooldowns in dso exactly point to this direction. the more dso tries to remain a "f2p"(with blood sucking worth advantage items) with having to sustain its whole business on few high end payers, the more this game will discriminate in p2p vs f2p. Until there comes a point when this game will crash because f2p will still be dissatisfied, p2p will be frustrated because of product vs price and everything will just fall off a cliff.
