    Dear Heroes,

This morning we deployed a new version on our Test Server with the new crafting system /work bench.

We are looking forward to hearing your feedback!

This is yet another example that makes me question if the dev's have ever played any game before.

First, there is no explanation whatsoever on what you need to do to craft. Thankfully, this thread showed that you have to run around and find vendors in Kingshill or PW to buy the necessary books.

Are there other towns that you can buy these books? Which vendors sell them? How many do I need? I tried a few in resistance command center and they didn't sell the books. So if I had not seen that video, I would have been stuck.

As mentioned in the other thread about this topic some players feel like this is a good idea, but I do not. There is no point in "selling" these books even if they are cheap.

The crafting table itself could have been set up as a guide with these books installed as a default. What's the point of making us run around until we find the books?

    Edit:

Here is a commonsense solution that helps newer/inexperienced players.

Make the crafting bench a quest.

    Q1. Bring four green items.
Q2. Bring four green items same (ie: rings)
    Q3. Bring four blue items.

Rinse and repeat until you hit the frags from the bosses in the PW.

This really doesn't need to be complicated. No need to buy things. No need to run around from NPC to NPC until you find the ones that sell the books. No need to waste draken or frags or anything else. Make it a quest and move on to real issues that affect players like balancing pvp.

I agree. I really don't like the idea of purchasing these books. It is pointless.
In other games which has similar feature, the books are mostly drops from creatures. It makes sense, you have to fight harder monsters to get rare books. But, purchasing from NPC vendors is kind of pointless. Doesn't add a feeling of adventure to the game. Just a boring, tedious task of checking every vendor to find the books.

This is a nice idea, but it's definitely not ready. As cdeepal said:
Buying all the recipes from vendors are dumb. Some ordinary recipes from vendors could be ok though. All these event recipes and pw recipes should drop from bosses and maps. I think this could help new players to craft. Also another thing: DON'T HURRY with big things like this.

No ressources and no draken to test the new system there but it seems to be nice. Is there any change for gold lines crafting ?

The price for book is low, i don't understand why some players complain about that, it takes 5 minutes to buy all them and to have all recipies for less than 1 gold coin. This new system will help players who doesn't understant how to craft so i think it's not bad.

For me the positive point is the new crafting system with augment cores but i can't test it now, will see when it comes on Heredur. Somebody has tested ?

I'm guessing the books are inexpensive on the test server so people try out the crafting. I would also guess that once it moves to production, those book costs go way up.

Totally pointless feature. This only adds confusion to the crafting process (what books are needed, where can they be obtained, etc.) without adding any new benefit, i.e., making crafting a desired item cheaper and/or with a higher chance of success.

I agree with @Rhysingstar that this is just more evidence that the devs are clueless about actual gameplay.

The price of the books are irrelevant. Once again DSO has poorly copied an aspect of popular games without understanding why those games have this feature.

What is the point of buying these books? Is that really a needed function of the game? Of course not.

What is the point of running around from NPC vendor to NPC vendor? Does that help the game? Of course not.

What is the point of keeping it a secret that you have to run around from NPC to NPC? Does that help anyone? Of course not.

Now, if these books were part of the crafting table, at least that would make some form of minimal sense. If they dropped from monsters, that would make some form of minimal sense. However, the completely unoriginal thought process of poorly copying popular games without knowing the reason as to why strikes again.

I edited my first post with a commonsense solution.

The recipes in the workbench are helpful for players who don't have much crafting experience.

Actually if the books were to be dropped from certain monsters/bosses, it'd be a cool idea if crafting had a higher chance to succeeed, using the manuals, because there would be a challenge getting them.
Or maybe why not going in the way of some other games where you get better at something the more you do it? I mean you could get better crafting results the more crafting you've done so far.

  10. I actually find this very interesting and I'd hope they would add something like this. For instance, since we cannot transfer lines from a unique to a different unique, it'd be nice to have rare books dropped from monsters/bosses that would allow us to do so. Or books for allowing us to break a gem into 3 previous variant. For example, 1 Ruby breaks down to 3 Simple Rubies.

However, for common things like transfer crafting, there is no point of buying a book as others stated. Either make it a "common" book that's dropped easily or just don't add books at all. Buying them is just... no.

This has zero benefit to players.
But since it is probably staying, all i would like to ask is - create a section in Collector's bag or somewhere else where all the recipes will go to. Buying them is bad enough, but also suffer inventory pollution? A bit too much.

If we are trying to benefit new players, then there was an awesome suggestion above to create a quest line to hit all crafting types.

In order to make the game more easy for new players they bring so much content that will make the game more laggy and with more bugs.
Now the sugested drop of books from monsters and bosses is the nicest way to implement this new workbench.
The only recepies for dragan and event items swhould be sold on gnob and events maps.
Also new special recepies for special items on event boses drop will be very apreciated.

You have to remember that BP has replaced the gaming experience "find the special item" with "Buy the special item". Now imagine if with this feature BP inserts a book to create 4/4 golden lines item to 50,000 ander. BP is covered with gold.

    1. I can't see any difference/change in the crafting system ... everything is the same.
    2. I agree that it is pointless feature ... but I also see one of the reasons (next point)
    3. You people don't see the big picture :p ... you don't read between the lines. One of the reasons for this change is obviously only cosmetics ... but the most important thing is they made separation of crafting to levels. This way they don't have to make unnecessary changes to other level gear ... when they have them separated in the start. (plain example) If you are level 10 you can't craft level 50 gear because you don't have the "manual". This way they are minimizing the possibilities of exploits and unpredictable behavior.

    edit:

getting the recipes from drops is not a solution ... because every player needs to have them immediately

New crafting system will be annoying. With this system a player will first have to find the right recipe in the list, then use the work bench. It takes more time.

Perhaps old level 55 players should be grandfathered in with respect to craftingss that were previously available.

    Exactly!
I was also concerned about this but it looks like you don't have to do that, just right-clicking your ingredients will work like it does now.
Also, by right-clicking an ingredient the workbench will show you all its crafting possibilities.

I also see that some recipes are obtainable only from quests.
So... making end level players go "treasure hunting" for low lvl quest seems quite stupid to me.

    Hello,

First of all i would like to thanks the team for the booking on test server that allowed us to make some tests.

The new system is fine to help players who are not "craft friendly" and the augment cores crafting will be very appreciated.

I found something that it would be nice to change. When we click on the bag icon to see quickly what we can craft with all items we have, it doesn't include eqquiped items. For example in the following screen we see that i can craft a Dragan cape with soul cores crafting :

I just eqquiped this cape and when i try again, the system doesn't tell me that i can craft this cape :

I think it would be better if this function include all eqquiped items too.

I know that it's a silly question but has anything changed in this process since they asked for our "official" feedback?

I'm guessing at some point maybe we will get a list of the various NPC traders that sell these stupid books and what towns they are in. Maybe even a price guide for each.

Since this will hit the live servers in probably 2 weeks, maybe a player (Trak) can find where we go and what we do.

    What new system?
Nothing is changed ... everything is the same. The only change is the upper part of the workbench which now tells stories :D

The workbench is not giving you any information because it is empty.
And that is working as intended .
Why? Because you are forgetting the rule #1 of crafting:
    - you can't put equipped items on the workbench
If you can't use them on the workbench that means you can't craft them.
However ... you have the same cloak in the inventory ... you need to uncheck and check the box so the workbench will refresh.
